Where does our wealth come from?

As someone who lives in a materially rich country with plenty of opportunities (at least prior to the coronavirus), I'm surrounded by people with nice houses, nice cars, who go to nice restaurants and go on expansive holidays.

When everything is going well, we are tempted to puff up ourselves and attribute our wealth and possessions to our abilities, intellect, or even our hard work. But we see that several thousand years ago, God already gave us a warning related to our tendencies to become proud.

“You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.” (Deuteronomy 8:17-18)
Next time when we are tempted to attribute our material blessings to our own hard work or talents, remember that all our abilities come from God. We have nothing to boast about, for we are nothing without God.

So true brother! Actually everything we have is His. Including our wife and children. All His!
Hag 2:8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.
We have these things on loan as stewards, but it is all His!

Here are words from the scriptures.

1 Corinthians 4:7 (NLT)

For what gives you the right to make such a judgment? What do you have that God hasn't given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?

Psalm 121 1

I lift up my eyes to the hills-- where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

All that we have in righteousness comes from God almighty and ALL just by his grace.
One of the things that happens to any Christian who acknowledges grace is that grace makes him HUMBLE.

Was reading a book today and I really was taken back to what it said...

"The world looks to money for power, but for the Christian...We look to love as true power..."

I'm paraphrasing but still...Huge message for me :)

That’s so true. It’s humbling to think that Jesus could have used His power and authority to make us follow Him, but instead He chose to win our hearts through love.
