Lotus Garden Newsletter for Homesteaders. 1st July 2020
A pinch and a punch for the first of the month? Welcome to a new month and another newsletter. We have plenty to get your teeth into this week!
Things happening in the community.
It's that time again! Time for @simplymike's garden journal challenge. What's been happening in your garden in June?
The @ecotrain question of the week asks if we are huggers or shruggers in this time of pandemic.
This week the @naturalmedicine challenge is about self inquiry, in relation to health and wellness.
Welcoming Newcomers
a newcomer this week is @springworth, who has jumped in feet first with her plans for plastic free July.
We also have a new arrival on Hive from Nigeria. @royalsam is a man of many talents, gardening being one of them.
Some highlights of the week
I love a post about mistakes, because there is so much to be learnt from them. @artonmysleeve gives us a tour of the allotment and highlights some of the mistakes that he plans not to repeat.
Palm oil is a product that is hotly debated at the moment, due to the way much of it is farmed. Debating aside, I was fascinated to be able to follow the process of harvesting and producing this oil, as demonstrated by @froshboy.
We've become so accustomed to the standard mushrooms in the supermarket, we probably rarely think about the range of other edible mushrooms available. @plantstoplanks showcases some amazing market finds of the mushroom kind and how she used them. If these don't peak your interest, I don't know what else will!
This week an article from @homestead-guru, who has been looking into some fascinating research into whether plants feel pain, has really captured my attention. It raises ideas on how this can be used to an advantage in agriculture.
Each week one of our featured authors will be selected to be a 5% beneficiary of The Lotus Garden newsletter. This week @plantstoplanks will receive this award.
