Play Boogie Woogie rock n roll guitar

Playing Boogie Woogie on the guitar has made a lot of people into huge rock stars. You may be surprised to learn that this old form of music was most closely associated with piano and the juke joints of the 1920's and 1930's.
Then from the 1940's it began to be used more and more by guitar players eventually leading directly into the rock and roll of the 1950's and onwards until today.

Some notable people and bands that used boogie woogie rhythms.

Elvis Presley
Status Quo
The Rolling Stones
ZZ Top
Jules Holland
Squeeze
To name just a few.

If you listen carefully you can hear this form of music in a lot of recordings even today.

Gear used in this video:
Harley Benton SC 450 CB classic series guitar
HB 20 R amplifier
Canon 70 D camera
Takstar microphone
Craphy soft box lighting kit

I would say fingerpicking is when you don't use a pick, but it's just semantics. A pick also affects some of the styles you can play. Some fast picking is hard to do without one. And it affects the tone. I have loads of different picks (or plectrums as we tend to say here) and the sound can vary a lot. We each find what works for us.

I have spent a lot of time playing this style. It's the foundation of rock and roll.

It sure is the bedrock of rock n roll.

As for your comment on 'semantics'.

There is a clear definition of 'finger picking'. It means using a pick or plectrum. You can even get finger picks for each individual finger.

Finger style is playing without picks although there are numerous variants of styles.

I knew this would be controversial 😂😂👍🎸

Well I still disagree on what fingerpicking means. This dictionary says it's playing with the fingers and a fingerpick is one that is attached to the finger and gives that technique more attack/volume. I've seen references to flatpicking, which is playing with a plectrum. Meanings may vary by culture and music genre. Not going to start a fight over this ;)

No... let's fight! 😂😂👍
I'll get the popcorn!

I don't trust online dictionaries as they are easy to manipulate and edit.

The truth is that both of these terms are basically interchangeable and have gotten mixed up by common usage but to a classical guitarist.

Finger style is 'sans picks' 😂👍🎸

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

Well I was a classical guitarist first :) I would say a fingerstyle guitarist fingerpicks.

OED says the same.

So, are you saying that if you play fingerstyle with fingerpicks (not flatpicks) the you are not playing fingerstyle any more as you have changed to fingerpicking?

Take your (finger) pick :)

We could move on to hybrid/chicken picking...

Ha ha touche! Finger lickin, chicken picking sounds tasty.

Alternate picking techniques are also hard to define.
Where does flat picking end when we use finger and thumb picks both at the same time?
I have done this myself in the past.
What do we call that? Not finger style.

As a classically trained guitarist you know that using finger picks is frowned on by many purists.
I said it was controversial 😂😂🎸👍

Kind of a "jam with the best of them in ten easy lessons" kind of thing?

Something like that. Breaking it down into easy to follow steps.
Everyone has to start at the same place. Only those with endurance will survive. 😂😂👍🎸
