Coping in my Corona Virus world: Essential Service
P
” Blackbirds tend to like Shiny Things” ~ The Bloody Raven
It’s about day 41 into this epic quarantine.
I turn to the clock at my bedside, here it comes. 1900 hours….
About two weeks ago it got started by a well-meaning individual in appreciation and acknowledgement to all Health care workers on the front lines of our Health Care system in dealing around the Pandemic. Then it spread throughout the Tri-cities and eventually in the entire Greater Vancouver region. My neighbours decide to haul out their New Year’s noise makers for 7:00 pm and join in this act of Appreciation of their Health Care Professionals.
I can understand being unemployed brings on a load of worries and anxieties especially when many of us have bills to pay, obligations to meet and I can see it on the faces of some of the shoppers and few pedestrians. I know that feeling of helplessness years ago before I received my tuition assistance to become a nurse and stopped having to depend too much on others helpful as they were.
Now I find myself on the other side of this Pandemic. I was able to put on hold my other moonlighting side jobs. I have a Certification in Respiratory and Ventilator equipment that puts me square on the cross hairs of the Emergency resource reallocation program if the larger hospitals lose too many key staff I may be ordered to report to where I am most needed. It hasn’t happened yet.
Even though my primary duties are to provide immediate care for the patients under my watch the bulk of my work involves around issues of Infection control, the tedious and meticulous sanitizing of all work surfaces, equipment, including door knobs, handles, light switches, pens, keyboards, phones and anything hands have been on. I work the odd day shift just to observe where hands go most often.
And if my free time can’t get any freer my baby sister calls me having coping issues since our Mom was placed into Residential Care. My little Sister has a terrible over compulsive fear of germs and now this Covid-19 nightmare! With her car broke down I got my hands full. I have never seen her in such a state of debilitating panic. I have to make the time to settle her down and review some coping skills. As if I'm already worried enough about Mum.
Well they had flawed data to begin with anyway.
We’re all in this together and thanks for the appreciation!
As long as I remain healthy, knock on wood, duty calls! I still love this job and if you can… keep stacking!
And, one more thing, Yellow PPE hospital wear is just NOT MY COLOR!

Awesome article, excellent info sharing. You and the work that you do is appreciated.. the entire world! Your special skills and specialization are so valuable and what you do is priceless (sometimes undervalued)... you certainly deserve more than just a car for all the risk that you take and everything else... like the personal attention for your family, your mom, you sister, your kids that you give up full time and attention to so that you can attend to the needs of others in your profession!
THANK YOU for the gift of yourself, to many, including me, sis!
You are me hero, my lovely and sweetest, sis @keerislravenhill 🥰🌺🤙. God bless and provide for all your needs to cope with everything that you face daily in your life. LOts of love and a million Hugs and Kisses 🤗💕💋!
Dear Sis, there are days I wish I could clone myself.
There are good friends from my church behind me that deserve the credit that helped me get to where I am, great role models, great teaching, supported me in my training, baby sat my kids for me, prayed that I would in a place God has set aside for my skills to serve in is name. And the Lord responded by putting everything in place long before he laid the foundations of the earth. And to Him, I give the most glory, To him who is true and faithful...
I am very honored to know a little more about you. Now I understand why Teresa's Adventures took a little vacation.
Teresa is still a work in progress, trying to keep the next chapter under 2k words and finally got a nice Mexican coin to show, difficult to get good Mexican Silver here without a huge premium. Chapter needs a lot of polish to it. My Loli-Nun outfit is almost ready for photo shoots.
ONLY ONE Certified in that area?
TIME TO ASK FOR A RAISE!
We don't have very many Respiratory patients yet.
A few with a history of Pneumonia so far.
But I am at the top Tier of the Unit's unionized pay scale in seniority and skill set.
I appreciate your comment Undy!
You ARE TOPS 💋
🤗💕💋🤗
...and hopefully, you will not have any more C-19 patients, anyway...
We are trending down in everything in the USA, from what I am hearing.
We're trending down. Though there is no partial lifting of Quarantining but I can see there are more people out and more traffic in the streets as if it was all clear. I think the folks are 'Sick' of their self imprisonment by a virus that shouldn't be that feared. The large majority of fatalities are still old patients from Residential homes. My Mom happens to be living in one.
In NY and CALI the idiot leftist Demonic RAT Governors are sending C19 patients BACK INTO nursing homes, and up to 33% of fatalities in NY are in these facilities... The next elections should be hammering these idiots with these facts continuously... These morons always claimed that the opposition would kill seniors with their policies, when in fact they are doing it intentionally.
Deliberately padding the stats to justify more Authoritarian lock-downs.
Stay safe and healthy! I am so sorry any time off got cancelled. My friend had this happen to her too. (kidney transplant coordinator at a local hospital).
Thank you for your infection control skills. 💕 The world needs so many of you right now.
Thanks @dfinney ,It's been a tough career but I knew I chose Nursing for the right reasons. There are many days I've walked home knowing I did the best could. And I couldn't disappoint those that help me through to finish my training.
What an important job you have @kerrislravenhill!!😀
It sounds like so many people are depending on you, make sure you find a bit if time for Kerris😀
Is the curve starting to flatten up in B.C.???
Stay safe my friend!!!
And my family depends on me safe and staying healthy too.
The BC Ministry of Health is carefully monitoring things as rates drop. I can see more pedestrian and vehicle traffic lately though no partial lifting has been green lighted yet.
That's what I am seeing down in Washington too, more cars on the roads but no changer in the lockdown.
The Mrs is an Optician and she sits in a closed office answering the phone.
Check out her Designer mask-wear on my post tonight that she is sewing!😀
Be safe my friend !!😀
He said, 'Stop doing wrong things and turn back to God! The kingdom of heaven is almost here.'(Matthew 3:2)

It's good that you love what you are doing, hopefully you get paid a lot and stay healthy
I went with my heart into Nursing and without the backing and support of some friends I wouldn't be here and with a gainful and fulfilling profession tangibly contributing to my community.
Thanks for the comment @djohan
I was almost an hermit before this mess started so the change wasn't significative for me. I did, however, enjoy traveling at least once a year... and that's the only drastic change in my life that I'll need to deal with. 🙄
Nice post! Hang on in there! This too, shall pass!
I need a vacation to catch up and recharge.
