A few days ago, on April 19, it was the 78th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. At 12 o'clock sirens started hearing in the city, and a loud sound of church bells was also heard. In previous years, when people were walking on the streets of Warsaw that day, people were coming to passers-by offering to attach a yellow paper daffodil, which is a symbol of this uprising, to their clothes. This year, yellow murals with the portraits of women who took part in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising also appeared at the Centrum metro station in Warsaw.

It was written on one of the walls: "April 19 is the 78th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Every year POLIN Museum invites you to participate in the Daffodils campaign, reminding about those who fought in the ghetto. This year we want to commemorate women in particular - during the uprising they distributed illegal press, looked after the wounded, were liaison officers and fought with weapons in their hands. The mural shows nine of them. Get to know them better on the website: Polin."

This is how Mira Fuchrer, a participant in the uprising, a woman from the photo above was described: "Mira Fuchrer (1920, Warsaw - May 8, 1943, Warsaw) - was a Zionist, liaison officer of the Jewish Fighting Organization and participant in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. needle symbol on the mural). As a liaison officer, she also traveled to ghettos outside of Warsaw. In February 1943, she took part in an attack on the Judenrat's money and the transfer of 100,000 zlotys obtained there to the ŻOB staff. she fought in the central ghetto together with Mordechaj Anielewicz They died on May 8, 1943 in the bunker of the uprising headquarters at 18 Miła Street. On May 7, he was with her at Franciszkańska Street. On May 8, in Miła Street, he shot her first, then himself. By the decision of President Bolesław Bierut, on April 19, 1948, Mira Fuchrer was awarded the Silver Cross of the Virtuti Militari War Order. The accounts repeat the opinion that she was a very beautiful young woman (hence the butterfly symbol on the mural). "

W czasie powstania w getcie warszawskim Mira Fuchrer walczyła w getcie centralnym, razem z Mordechajem Anielewiczem.

I admire the courage of these women and I am glad that they were commemorated in this way. Now anyone who wants to can get to know their stories and see what they looked like.

And this is the center of Warsaw seen from there - the Palace of Culture and Science and the surrounding buildings - skyscrapers.

A to centrum Warszawy widziane z tamtych okolic - Pałac Kultury i okoliczne budynki - drapacze chmur.

It was difficult for me to take photos from a distance, including more female portraits, because on one side there was a tent with photos and pro-life slogans, and on the other side, a street church was just setting up and a moment later a meal for the needy was to be served. But I managed to take a lot of photos anyway.

I think it is a very important mural and a history lesson at the same time. Children passing by the metro can ask their parents what kind of women they are, adults can deepen their knowledge on this subject. I really like this important and needed initiative.
