Signs of Spring in the Woods: MyPictureDay + WednesdayWalk + MakeMeSmile + Photo52 Week 17

avatar

Contributing to 4 Challenges at the same time, that's what I want to do today. This post is about a long relaxing photography walk, new life growing in spring and hopefully some of the photos will make you smile.

One Post : Four Challenges
#Photo52 . #MyPictureDay . #MakeMeSmile . #WednesdayWalk

Near my hometown Klagenfurt there is a reservoir called Drau Reservoir Annabrücke or Ferlach Reservoir, where I go for a walk quite often. On nice days there are a lot of people there, whom I can hear but can only see in the distance walking on the other side of the lake.

Canon EOS R | SIGMA 105mm 1:2,8 DG MACRO HSM
ISO 100 . f/7.1 . 1/40 sec . @105 mm

Fresh grown flowers, green leaves and new life - this little baby spider on the leaf was only about 2 millimeters long. It was quite windy, so I was glad that I could get this almost sharp shot.

Canon EOS R | EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS II USM
ISO 100 . f/4 . 1/30 sec . @167 mm

The way beside the lake I use is nice, but other than seeing a fisherman every now and then, in a year I don't meet more people than I have fingers on one hand (@pixelfan: that's 5 at most 😉).

This is probably due to the fact that at the end of the way there is a power plant that makes a loud noise, but this is not really annoying. After the power plant, the way in the forest runs along the lake, which is more of a small trail than a nice walking path.

Canon EOS R | EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS II USM
ISO 100 . f/6.3 . 1/15 sec . @147 mm

Canon EOS R | SIGMA 105mm 1:2,8 DG MACRO HSM
ISO 100 . f/4.5 . 1/25 sec . @105 mm

Many trees already sprout new life and have flowers and buds, but some seem to be still in hibernation and take their time.

Canon EOS R | EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS II USM
ISO 100 . f/16 . 1/13 sec . @200 mm

New small plants grow from the driest rocks.

Canon EOS R | SIGMA 105mm 1:2,8 DG MACRO HSM
ISO 100 . f/7.1 . 1/8 sec . @105 mm

That there are less people is probably also a reason why beavers have settled in this area of the lake.

When I get there very early in the morning, I always see some of these big swimming rodents, and sometimes they don't flee immediately, but watch me from a safe distance in the water and then keep swimming when they find out that I mean no danger.

Maybe I should try to take a few photos of them again soon, because if I am prepared for it, I can sometimes take sharp wildlife photos ...

... because last week suddenly two deer crossed my path and I wasn't prepared for that.

The deer were as surprised as I was, but none of us three was scared. They nevertheless retreated and went down to the water because they apparently wanted to "swim around" me.

Unfortunately, my camera settings were still on "flower photography" and I was so surprised that in the few seconds that it all took, I was only able to take a single photo on which at least something is to see and recognize.

The next time I pass this spot, these two baby ferns will probably be fully grown.

This is my Image for the #Photo52 Competition "Life"

Canon EOS R | SIGMA 105mm 1:2,8 DG MACRO HSM
ISO 100 . f/7.1 . 1/5 sec . @105 mm

At the end of the somewhat walkable trail, a beautiful panoramic view awaits you and then there is a small stream with waterfalls, which flows into the lake in a kind of lagoon.

Nobody has ever been there at the same time when I was there. I have always had this place for me, and more than once I have been sitting there and replied to comments on my posts 😊

The path ends at this lagoon and you have to find your own way if you want to go further on. The slope down to the water is relatively steep, overgrown and partly slippery due to the thick layer of autumn leaves, but it is beautifully calm.

A day of photography for me looks like this often, or better said most times: a relaxing walk at the lake, far away from people and every now and then there is a little surprise in form of a wild animal or a bird or just a very nice flower.

So, this was the end of my walk that day last week, and on my way back I have shot some photos of polants and flowers, which I want to show you too.

I know that you can eat some flowers. I don't know if this flower is edible, but someone or something wanted to know it and took a few bites.

Canon EOS R | SIGMA 105mm 1:2,8 DG MACRO HSM
ISO 100 . f/5.6 . 1/30 sec . @105 mm

I took this photo because this brown shell of a bud was a nice contrast to the fresh green leaves. But at home on the big monitor I saw that it looked as if the brown thing was hovering over the leaf. After meeting the deer, this image brought another smile on my face.

Canon EOS R | SIGMA 105mm 1:2,8 DG MACRO HSM
ISO 100 . f/18 . 0.3 sec . @105 mm

Canon EOS R | SIGMA 105mm 1:2,8 DG MACRO HSM
ISO 100 . f/7.1 . 1/5 sec . @105 mm

This flower was really small and the flower was definitely not much bigger than the little baby spider.

That was very productive walk @johannpiber 🙂.
So many beautiful pictures and four competition entries in one walk and one post. 👏 WOW 👏.

It looks like spring came up to the woods, with spectacular flowers.

I love the photo with the deer, looking straight into your camera. And of course beautiful scenery at the end of the walk, with stunning views and beautiful waterfall.

Have a great evening my friend 😊 and of course stay safe and healthy 😊.

I always forget about the competitions that are around here, so I thought I could do 4 at once and then forget again 😉
Thank you so much that you like the post and the photos @cezary-io, I really appreciate your compliments.

We have beautiful weather and spring has finally come to us. Unfortunately it didn't rain much, so there's still not much green grass on many places, but this will come soon too.
It is not the most beautiful place there, but I have it for me alone :)
The deer was quite surprised to see me just where it wanted to get out of the water, but then it did get out and went on it's way without taking care of me ;)

I wish you also a great evening and health, my friend 🙂

Thanks a lot for your nice words JJ - that's my place to go when I'm at home and as long as the borders are still closed anyway 🙂

When I made this post today I thought this photo would be worth a smile 😉

You too stay safe and healthy my friend 👍

Yes, it is wonderful there and always when I am there I wonder why nobody walks on this path, but to be honest, I prefer it that way and I really do not mind to meet nobody 😉
Thank you so much @suzana72, I wish you a great day 🙂

I hope the deer doesn't have a brain worm... Sometimes they go crazy from it and swim endlessly in a lake... The tiny green plan looks like wild mint.

No, I don't think so, because I really think they just wanted to swim around me. I have never seen a deer swim before and all I could do was to smile. Maybe this is why these two deer haven't been scared ;)
Wild mint? If I don't forget I'll smell it when I'm there next time.
Thank you so much @sketch.and.jam, have a great day and take care.

What great photography Johann. When i saw the picture of the deer swimming I thought you meant it was a beaver and I was thinking your beavers have a lot bigger ears than the ones I’ve seen. 🙃

Have you eaten fiddleheads? Those fern heads look like they would be good to eat. In certain wet areas the ferns are quite plentiful and are always a special treat in the spring. They are cleaned and cooked in boiling water like any veggie. Then eaten with vinegar, butter, salt and pepper.

Good morning Jo,

haha, that would have been one more reason to smile if I would have thought that it was a beaver 😉 but you are right, I should have placed the photo a bit further down.
I saw a beaver a few minutes later and our beavers look the same as yours ;)

Eating ferns? I have never heard that they would be edible, but I have just had a look and read that some are actually edible, but most of the ferns here are poisonous and it is difficult to distinguish them. This might be the reason why I have never heard about cooking and eating ferns. They are said to be a delicacy in the United States and Canada and some other countries though. So, if I ever should come to America I'll try some there ;)

Thank you very much Jo, have a great day 🙂

Oh no, I joined the competitions just for fun and because I thought my post would match all, but I don't expect a win ... just some smiles would be nice 🙂
I love to be there, because it's a place where I really can relax and be alone.
Thank you so much that you like it too, dear @kaminchan, I wish you a nice evening and hope you take care to stay healthy.

Thanks a lot for your nice comment my friend, also for the good advice of which I could have thought myself, because the small Canon is always in my backback. Maybe I should put it somewhere where I could quickly grab it ;)

For little Kenon, you can come up with a chest pocket on the strap. I want to do the same for my iPad. He does a good job of reporting.

The camera is small enough to be in a pocket of my jacket or trousers - I don't like camera straps or such pockets hanging around my neck ;)
But as I know myself, next time I will be too surprised again and forget about the second camera too ;) lol

a lot of cool captures here. young ferns are among the best. i am envy cause i never was able to shoot this scene (just cant happen in a right time in a right place, impossible).

and the deer made me smile -- i really was sure you have met a cangaroo!

It looks a bit like a cangaroo, doesn't it?
They said it will rain in the next days, so it will be more green when I am going there next week. It didn't rain lately and most is still gray and not much grass has grown yet, But it is still beautiful and the best thing is that I have this place for me alone 🙂
Thank you so much for your kind comment, @qwerrie, and you don't have to be envy, because I have seen photos of areas which you have photographed, which are even nicer 🙂

Actually, I wanted to participate every week, but this whole crisis situation came in between - I just blame the virus so that I don't have to blame myself and my laziness ;)
Hopefully in a few weeks time our measures and restrictions will have loosened enough that I can go to other places too, which are further away, because staying around home has become kind of boring and uninteresting, to be honest ;)

That deer was really a nice one and I almost thought it would come to me to say hello, but about 3 meters before me it turned the other way 😉

Hey hey @martibis founder of @pinmapple and Haveyoubeenhere here, I was wondering if you were up for a bit of an experiment! 😄

I want to test an assumption which is that using Haveyoubeenhere is infinitely more enjoyable when you already know some people on the platform! So I am gathering 15 high quality travel content creators to, well, get to know each other some and then afterwards all together test out Haveyoubeenhere for a bit! 😄 If it sounds like something you would like to help out with you can join the Discord and just hit me up there! For bragging rights in the future you will get the "haveyoubeenhere-og" role in the Discord too, haha! 😄

Good morning @brittandjosie 🙂

There are many nice challenges on the Hive and I didn't think of the shadow hunters - thank you so much that you like that shot 😁

I think, as well as Austria is slowly getting back to a "normal" life my "lazy times" on the Hive are slowly over too, especially because we are back in the League now to boost the numbers and motivate the others :)

I wish you a great day and stay safe and healthy 🙂
