Abstract Photography | Intimate Landscape Photography

Is it Abstract Photography? There's also the term Intimate Landscape Photography, which I personally like more somehow. Actually, for this post a suitable title might also be Intimate Waterscape ;)

Abstract or Intimate Landscape Photography
Abstract Photography | Intimate Landscape Photography

I have taken all images in September 2020 during a trip to the Maltatal Hochalmstrasse (Link to Google Maps below).
The first three images were taken at a river near the entrance to the road, which leads to the Kölnbrein Dam, the tallest dam in Austria. The structures on the rocks were fascinating and you may be sure that I'll visit that place again next year when the road opens again after the Winter.

When I am there next time I want to take more time to explore more of this river and its interesting shaped and textured rocks.

A bit further up the road there's a parking lot from which you can hike to the so called "Blauer Tumpf" what means "Blue Pond". I couldn't see any blue water there, but this rock face looked cool enough for a photo.

According to Wikipedia, Abstract photography, sometimes called non-objective, experimental or conceptual photography, is a means of depicting a visual image that does not have an immediate association with the object world and that has been created through the use of photographic equipment, processes or materials. An abstract photograph may isolate a fragment of a natural scene in order to remove its inherent context from the viewer, it may be purposely staged to create a seemingly unreal appearance from real objects, or it may involve the use of color, light, shadow, texture, shape and/or form to convey a feeling, sensation or impression.

Location: Entrance to the Maltatal Hochalmstrasse on Google Maps

All photos were taken with the Canon EOS R and the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS II USM lens.
If you are interested in the image data, I leave all EXIF and IPTC information stored in the pictures.

Oh, my father in law would llove to see this and you will be amazed at what he can tell you about these rocks Hannes. He is a geologist (retired now)
I have bookmarked this post to show him when they visit again.

You've got the waterflows spot on and beautiful my friend.
Another great post here!

Blessings!

The rivers there are full of such rocks.
I am sure I could find more about them on the website of that valley or the road, but although it would be interesting that's knowledge I would forget anyway 😉 lol

Thank you so much that you like my post, Zac 😄

Each of the layer lines that you see explains a different time period of settled rock Hannes.
The old man can even tell how it was formed and the type of rock materials.
He gave me a tree that was turned into rock, a fossilized rock, but I forgot to load it when we moved here.

Rocks are interesting my friend.

A pleasure to like your great posts!

Cheers and thanks!

I know a little about it because there were so many things we learned at school, but some things like these layers and such stayed in my mind ;) You can see that in the mountains too, only much bigger.
We have found quite a few stones with fossiles or better said with their imprints, like shells or snails in the mountains. That tells us that our mountains have once been the ground of an ocean :)

So amazing isn't it?
To think that the monolith mountains were once on the sea bed.
At least you remember something that you learned at school 🤣
I only remember the one young beautiful teacher!

I think that you might know a bit of the history behind our Table Mountain.
It's thought to be one of the oldest mountain in the world.

The Alps are reckoned at 40 million years old.
Table Mountain is 240 million years old.

https://www.news.uct.ac.za/article/-2015-03-09-33-cool-facts-about-table-mountain

"uct" in the address means the university of Cape Town.

Cheers and thanks.

Yeah, the Alps might be relatively young compared to other mountain ranges, but they might still be here when the table mountain will be a small island in the sea again ;)

The way we are going my friend, maybe all of the mountains will cease to exist.
If the Ters ever lay their hands on atomic weapons, we will all be in shtuck.
Besides that we have many other destructions of the planet to worry about.

Cheers and thanks!

When these mountains go, new mountains will grow.
When we destroy the nature she will destroy us, take a rest to recover and then give it another try ;)

Good morning Zac,
I am back at work and in an hour I'll move to the other office where I'll hopefully find some time, but for now I'll try to reply to as much as I can and leave the mountain of work as it is :)

Good afternoon Hannes,

Back at work? So they can't make do without your prescence?
I hope that they have insurance for your exposure, as you are supposed to be at home.

Yes indeed, nature has reclaimed many forgotten empires, but it never had to face enemies such as plastics and other modern poisons. I read a scientific study summary that stated the fact tha even humans are starting to digest plastic molecules in the food that we eat and that the cancer rates have increased dramatically.
Scary stuff my friend.

Cheers and thanks!

I have worked more hours at home than I do in my office, but some things can't be done at home, so we change every week, but maybe after this week we will be working "normal" again anyway.

Nature will get rid of the plastic too, it just takes time - and in the meantime mother Nature has also time to develop new life which will hopefully take more care of her this time 😊

Good afternoon Hannes,

Glad that you will soon return to "normal" again my friend!

The little plasic nodules are taking a heavy toll on the fish and the birds at the ocean.
They are saying that a container fell off a ship into the sea, It contained plastic pellets that they melt to make bottles and such.
Then we read of heavy oils spills into the seas and all of the rivers are flowing tons of litter into the sea. They are talking about thousands of years for plastic to degrade in nature and we keep on feeeding it every day. How long can this go on?

Cheers and thanks!

Good afternoon Zac,

I think "normal" will be postponed for a week or two, but they will tell us the decision on Thursday.

Plastic, oil, litter - so bad, but we can only hope that mankind starts to do something against that - all together. This pandemic thing is also bad, but I believe it's also a chance 🙂

Good evening Hannes,

I really hope that you will get good news on Thusday, but even if not, the country has to do what is responsible and neccessary!

Yes, hope is always our mainstay, but the scientific reports state that we are beyond the turn around point my friend. A big worry for our children and our grandkids!

Cheers and thanks!

Yes, a difficult thing that we are all dealing with Hannes.
Much noise about the vaccines and someone is going to make a lot of money, but desperate people willl happily pay that money.

The storms here have moved inland up north and they are creating much damage when they land. Saw photos of hail stones as big as tennis balls.

Hope is all that we have my friend!

Cheers and thanks!

Hi Zac,

not only your insects are bigger than ours, also your hail stones - here we call them hail graines, because they are normally quite small, but we have had such big ones too in the past years.

There will always be a few who earn big money from the suffering of others.

Good morning to you my friend,

Africa is a huge continent with many variables and sooner or later they all filter down to the soutern tip. We even have a few camels here all the way from Egypt. So yes the insects get very big. Then the sunny weather is also a growth catalyst.
As far as the hail is concerned, I think that I told you that one of those stones broke the windscreen on my car some years ago and I thought tht it was a gunshot, as there was no rain.
Scary stuff my friend.

Cheers and thanks!

Good afternoon Zac,

I think I'm glad that it's not that hot here - these insects look beautiful, but I don't think I would like to have them at home. I prefer our smaller versions 😉

Good almost afternoon Hannes,

Have a gap here before meeting the CEO of the place where we plan to start the coding for the kids.

Hahaha, so I think an insect like an Elephant would scare you terribly if he were to come and search for food at your place.

I presume your tomorrow is today and glad that the busy week is behind you. Of course there will be many others, but enjoy your brief reprieve!

Good almost evening Zac 😊

My week will be over when it's dark outside and I hope I'll have a few minutes for a short post.

Good luck in your meeting 🙂

Hi Zac,

I don't have much time today although I'm working from home. So I don't know if I can make a post tonight, but I have a few almost finished insects macro shots from the summer which I might be able to finalize later. Good morning Hannes,

This is the new day and you don't need to rush to complete the insect post. Although I am looking forward to it, it is not a competition.
By now you have seen a few of my insect photos in the post and I know that Austria is too cold for many of them.

But the quality of your photos can make any insect and even a mouse look good.
Btw. I think that I should post a mouse today 🤣

Good afternoon Zac ☺️

We have had a rainy day which has turned to a snow day while I was working on my insect post which has turned into a flower post with insects 😂

Good morning Hannes,

They say that it is rainy here today and that the weather is very unusual.

Some of these mice turn into rats and in some areas of the country they have sugar cane rats that are as big as cats.

A flower, insect post? Never heard of it, but it should be interesting. Will go and have a look see.

These technical terms of describing photography certainly confuses the hell out of me but you been more of a professional photographer then me are more aware of these technical terms of describing photography like @qurator they have been having a few of these technical term photography contest like ICM Photography , HDR Photography , Tilt Shift Photography what the heck i had to google them to see what they were talking about...lol ... but all interesting 👍

ICM is a cool thing: you just shake your camera or you zoom in and/or out while you take the photo and so ;)
Many of my photos are HDR's when there's too much difference in brightness from foreground to the background or the sky. Tilt-shift looks nice, but I haven't made such photos yet.

It's snowing here and I don't have the time to get out. It will probably be dark again when I leave the office today. Wish you a great day 😊
