Inspirational Monday (15) - Who Do You Think You Are?
Who do you think you are?
Mostly we associate that question with sarcasm. But today, here in this post, it's got absolutely nothing to do with sarcasm. I can also ask "who do you want to be?"
You see, we all want to enjoy success. We all want to set goals and achieve them. We would like to have nice things. We want to be "somebody".
But there is one crucial element that we need to pay attention to first. Something that is often neglected. And that is what you think about yourself? What kind of a person do you think you are.
We need to realize that your mind, the thoughts you think, have a direct impact on what you do, how you do it, and how you carry yourself (or behave) in general. The mind can only think one thought at any given time. You cannot think about two things at the same time.
If someone would ask you to quietly count to fifty, and while you are silently counting in your mind, let's say you reach 23...they suddenly interrupt you and ask you where your lunch is, you would have to stop counting to focus on the question and give them an answer. Then you have to think about where you were in your counting and only then you would be able to continue again.
You cannot think two thoughts at the same time.
And that makes our thought of the week so important.
The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
You cannot expect to become a successful entrepreneur while you are thinking of yourself as a failure.
It has been proven that if you consciously start thinking of yourself in a certain way, your actions (and body) will follow and you will instinctively start performing actions that are in line with your thoughts.
If you think of yourself as successful in any area, you will spontaneously feel the need to learn about certain topics. You would tackle activities with more enthusiasm and confidence. You will start performing activities that are in line with your thinking.
On the other hand, if you think of yourself as a failure in certain areas, you would try to avoid any activity that has anything to do with that topic at all cost.
For that reason, it is important to first decide who or what you want to be. Then set out to become that person.
Then, when you start setting goals, set goals that are in line with your personality. Choose goals that will complement who you are. That would make it so much easier to achieve your goals.
So, who do you think you are? If your response to this is "I wish I could be this...", or "I am just a nobody...", or "I would like to be that, but...", stop right there. If you try to work towards any goal while you think of yourself as a failure, you are fighting a losing battle.
We often hear the advice given here on the blockchain... "win the small battles first". Set small goals first and get in the habit of achieving those small goals. Then, as you get comfortable with achieving those small goals, start stretching yourself to achieve bigger goals. But first, become the person you want to be.
I hope this was helpful if you find yourself in a situation where you battle with achieving your goals.
