[ENGLISH]

It is a question that many friends and family who are abroad often ask me. Some as inquisitive, others in an almost pejorative, derogatory way. And depending on the context and the person, some tend to take my answer better than others.

I am a medical student, I am 21 years old and I have just finished the fourth year of my degree. It's not just a title to get out of, not some kind of ego-pleasing way. It is a dream and a personal goal, long before everything in this country went to hell.

Since I started university, I have seen my friends leave one by one, after painful goodbyes, some do not forgive me for sticking with my decision to finish my degree.

- "Everything is destroyed, there is nothing left there."
- "And what are you going to eat, what are you going to live on, doesn't it hurt to live like this?"
- "That title is not going to be of any use to you outside in the same way."
- "You are wasting your youth and your time."

My answer to all of this is that I am aware of all these things. Of course I know that we are in one of the worst humanitarian and economic crises the country has ever seen, and of course I am aware of hyperinflation. I LIVE IT!

Despite this, and despite all the pain, sadness, despair or shortcomings that have occurred on this trip, I cannot just throw in the towel. I can't stop what I want to do, it would be a violation of myself. Of course I know how bad Venezuela is, I don't see it on the news, nobody tells me, I live it day by day.

I fight against this system, there is misery and corruption that surrounds us, because beyond that, there are many good professionals who have trained and guided me, driven by the strength of their pedagogy and their love for teaching. It is not about romanticizing misery or romanticizing hunger, need or playing blind. I hate this whole situation with the same fervor and resentment with which I hate being robbed without the right to replicate the opportunity to live a full life, a stable economy, and the right to stability based on my parents' decent work, and from my part.

Still, if I leave now, if I leave tomorrow. If I had left 4 years ago, when my best friend wanted to pay for my tickets, what would everything I've done so far have been worth? All the tricks and tricks I did to keep myself From selling food to getting paid for jobs, being a kitchen assistant, blogging in this space with discipline ... Would it all be in vain?

My biggest fear is throwing in the towel and being just another unfinished story from a dream that didn't come true.

So, in summary: I am still in Venezuela because they took everything from me, from joy, a dignified life, the value of my parents' hard work, basic services, freedom of expression in a highly socialist and repressive university, the right wing. to an education with all the resources it deserves and the quality it should have ... But, under no circumstances, not even for what they dry out to this place, can they steal my dream from me. I'll walk out of here victorious, on my terms.
