New Adventures in DeFi

avatar

After a couple of trial runs on other sites, https://cubdefi.com/ has finally lured me into the lions den. It's been an exciting 24 hours and with a CUB airdrop on the way, we are not done yet!

So cute, you almost forget this is real money flying around at breakneck speeds:

image.png

When I saw the logo late yesterday evening in the Euro zone, it did remind me of the colourful approach PancakeSwap had taken. I think the site looks great though, and I've not seen or heard of any major bugs. Although, if you squeeze the page (using Brave on Windoze) by dragging the window, you get some cool purple action.

image.png

This afternoon (after some staking first of course!) I sent the link out to a friend and was fairly confident that within the hour (get a job ya lazy bish!) she would have something staked in the Den:

image.png

Don't worry, her bark is louder than her bite. And how would I know 'when to get out'?

Ideally, staking and providing liquidity for stable coins will be a long term winner, even during the next bear market. I wouldn't expect APR in the thousands, 10% would do me during the dark times.

I actually sold some CUB earlier today which was earned by staking ETH. The 4% deposit fee has been covered and so that is free-rolling, along with the other 3 staking/farms I'm involved in.

CUB is currently valued at just over 10$, which is insane to me, but maybe I am missing something? I full expect the price to tank when the drop happens, but do think it will bounce back well once those who aren't interested in the DeFi game have sold up.

At this point I am unsure what I will do with mine, but I do have some BUSD and a little BNB ready to go. It'll probably work out better for me in the long run if I don't try to trade the expected drop and bounce!

And for this final section, I'm going to quote a few lines from another excellent post written today by Mr TarazKP.

The Leo Finance team is active and passionate - but, would it have been possible to do it without the Hive community?

I don't think so (either), but well done to Leo Finance team for leveraging the Hive community to produce something at the forefront of the crypto space.

One of the challenges [for Hive] at the moment [is that] there are some crazy opportunities to get inflated gains on APR, making holding Hive stake somewhat unattractive in comparison, as it "only" offers about 15% through curation.

Yup, got a solution?

... Hive already has a mining pool in operation where people stake and gain access to the inflation, but the same stake could potentially concurrently act as a DeFi pool to take advantage of other opportunities. This would mean that holding HIVE as stake doesn't mean missing out on other opportunities, it means increasing those opportunities by that 15% a year on top of whatever the others are offering.

Sounds good to me!

Some of us are holding a buttload of HIVE in comparison to anything else in our PF. But while projects like Leo Finance and Splinterlands continue to develop here, I'm happy to be holding, playing, learning, and earning.

Cheers!

Ash

Hehe, cheers for the help earlier. I think I am sorted now! :OD

Apparently it is (indirectly) tradeable for Beer - the acid test for real monies!

I asked another Hiver earlier what his missus thinks - she was wanting to throw a load more in!

Hehe, cheers for the help earlier.

No worries, I got some CUB going for $8.611 if you fancy it? :D

So much cub!

It's great fun actually, although trading it in for beer (indirectly) that's what it's all about!!

I envy you people who can do this all fast and furious. I am meticulously hunting and pecking my way around the keyboard, following explicit step-by-step instructions and checking everything three times before moving on. :-)

I really don't feel like I'm going fast at all - still doing the small transaction before the larger one each time!

The LEO discord, and discord in general, has been really helpful to me. People are quite forthcoming with knowledge, and we have loads of posts on the subject too!

I was waiting to read a post from you to say you got in and here it is. 😊

Keep having fun!

Am I that predictable? :D

There is definitely a leap of faith required, but I think that's been made easier because it's Hive people, you know?

That's doesn't mean it's guaranteed to succeed but I feel a bit more comfortable with it being closer to home.

So, are you in?!

So, are you in?!

No. There's too much to work out for me. I don't have a Binance account or liquid LEO or the time to learn how to do it. And, from what I've read, it's not an easy process for those of use more "not sure what to put in here" challenged.

It's pretty hard hearing everyone successes but there will be many more opportunities.

Even if I got in I'd then have to decide when to get out or would have to monitor it. (I assume). It doesn't sound like a set and forget type of thing.

I hope it works out really well for you though. You deserve a windfall moment!

It helps having a Binance account from what I've seen so far. You could always open one?

I have 0 liquid LEO too, and may end up not moving any over to cubdefi as there is CUB, and opportunities to stake a bunch of tokens.

I like the idea of providing liquidity for 2 stable coins - that's more like a set and forget with occasional logons to collect some CUB.

Thank you! I've not risked enough for crazy rewards but Leo Finance are providing some decent opportunities at present :)

I thought it was a prerequisite.

I thought it was a prerequisite.

I think this demonstrates my level of understanding. Worse than I thought! 😂

I don't have any stable coins either but I like the set and forget aspect.

Where does the airdrop come into all of this then. This morning I thought it had already happened and people were using that but as the day went on I realised that wasn't the case.

I am finally also early in the game, moved whatever liquid LEO I had to Cub Finance to farm with BNB. Eagerly waiting for the CUB claimdrop!

You are ahead of me then - I've not moved any Leo over and am yet to figure out that part.

I think there loads of people hanging on for the claimdrop right now - hopefully we don't have to wait long!

Wow, that is some real pressure there! Make sure it doesn't fail! I don't know if I would be able to handle that kind of ultimatum! :) I am happy to see that you took the dive. This is my first real step into DeFi as well. Fingers crossed it works out well for me.

I hear a lot about Defi - but still not got enough interest to jump in. Isn't it like, its all at the cost of gain for some and loss for some ?

Hopefully the gain will come to all cub/leo holders because of all the fees being used to buy and burn tokens - it's a win/win if you are involved and a holder, I hope!

That last bit sounds more than awesome: earning from inflation, curation, and also defi? Shut up and take my hive. I would also add in there earning rewards for RC delegation, if that becomes a thing at some point of course.

Yeah, lots of ways to collect HIVE / LEO / etc :)

I wonder if we will ever see they day when RCs are that in demand that there is a price on them. That would mean we are in full boomtime mode!

I hope we will get there and see front ends needing huge RC pools to keep up with unboarding new users

Yeah same. It's just when I look at how many accounts I could power with 99% of own RCs delegated out - it's a lot of leeway we have right now.

I'm going the stable coin way for now. I will try out the liquidity pool in the next 7days after a short power down. hopefully, I will have enough busd to match my bleo (which is going crazy by the way). Hopefully, more farming options will be added in the nearest future to maintain the excitement. I would like to say more use for the $cub token so it doesn't end up dying out.

Leofinance has benefited from the active hive community. Hopefully, other projects take a cue. If we do have twenty projects like leofinance and splinterland things will actually look good for hive.

I think that is a sensible approach - who knows what will happen with the CUB drop and so pooling with CUB seems risky at present.

Stables in the Den, or pooled against themselves seems simple but effective and a decent slow-burner.

I would like to see more use for the $cub token so it doesn't end up dying out.

Based on recent history, I'm sure they have something up their sleeves :)

If we do have twenty projects like leofinance and splinterlands things will actually look good for hive.

At this point I would take 5/10 as prominent as these, but it is certainly the case of the more the merrier!

NFTs, the new crypto craze

NFTs, the new crypto crazeNon-fungible tokens, a kind of non-interchangeable blockchain-based digital tokens, are developing in the gaming, sports and even luxury sectors.

You've finally figured out what bitcoin is. You begin to understand what Defi (or decentralized finance) is . You will have to work on NFTs, the non-fungible tokens. Rest assured, it is not that complicated. An NFT is a digital token with its own characteristics and which is not interchangeable. It is therefore unique unlike a bitcoin which can be exchanged for another bitcoin. Ah, we almost forgot: it is based on blockchain technology, most often on Ethereum , which means that we can certify who owns it and trace it.

Webinar: what data challenges in 2021?
I'M REGISTERING
To buy or sell, there are several specialized platforms like OpenSea and Rarible. The first known NFTs are called Cryptokitties, small virtual colorful cats that look like Pokémon. Appeared at the end of 2017, this project is quite simply a collector's game (we call it a collectible) in which you can buy, sell and even create a new Cryptokitty by merging two of them. Within days, the total transaction amount of Cryptokitties had reached almost $ 5 million. A huge success that even congested the Ethereum network. For example, the "Genesis" cat was sold for 246 ethers, the equivalent of 97,000 euros at the time (and 300,000 euros today!). "Back in the Cryptokitties era, NFTs were more of a basic tokens associated with images. For some users, this meant somethingrisky investment and that it is better to put money that is ready to lose.

Unique music
Since 2017, NFTs have changed a lot. It is always possible to buy a Cryptokitty but also works of art, game cards, domain names or even tweets. Twitter boss Jack Dorsey auctioned off his first tweet on March 6 . At the time of this writing, the highest bidder has offered the modest sum of $ 2.5 million. Still far from the record which stands at $ 6.6 million for a digital work by artist Beeple representing a Donald Trump not really to his advantage.

I'm glad you're having fun, and it does sound like we have the beginning of an awesome opportunity here... for the moment, I'm just trying to wrangle even getting a little bit on BNB, while living in an area that's outside Binance's trade zone... local legislation headaches, as always...

Be very interesting to see what happens when the token drop actually happens!

Do you know how to get the total LP supply? Is it on the BNB contract?

That's the equivalent money staked depending on the prices of the pairs...

The LP pair circulating supply I think its the value you see in the contract (after you click in the View on BscScan). But I was trying to get confirmation from the team... maybe @fbslo can clarify that.

Yeah... does not make sense to me, unless those addresses are just contracts (the approve thing you have to answer)... and then it will be under that where you see the holders.

Most of the CUB-BUSD LP tokens are staked in the Cub contract (showing as 1 address here).

Yep, this last line pretty muchs sums it up. I've staked my tiny 1,2 Cub in the Den, but decided also to take the leap and add liquidity to the Cub/Busd pair. A 5000% APR seems insane, but I had to join in on the bigger fun!
