ULOG: I Don't Have a Favorite Child But I am a Different Parent to All Children

Yesterday while eating a very not healthy dinner of fast food burgers and fries, we were having a dinner conversation about what we learned at school that day.

My son, who is in Transitional Kindergarten, a class created for those who did not make the cut off age wise for kindergarten, but are too "old" to stay home for another year (or some other random explanation California has for not letting 5 year olds into "regular" kindergarten).

He proceeded to tell us that they were learning about healthy foods in class. When we asked him what the healthy foods were, he made a weird kind of smile and then started to say:

Healthy foods are hamburgers and fries, lollipops, ice cream, and anything at seven eleven

My oldest daughter started smiling and laughing and asking him for details...

And then I caught myself.

Even though my oldest daughter and my middle daughter were enjoying themselves at my sons fibs, I was in full realization that I would not have let either of my daughters get away with such games.

I would have put a stop to it immediately, and told them to be more honest and forthcoming with their mother. They would have been "in trouble".

I did a more kind version with my son, and after he was done telling his story, we laughed and reminded him that we knew better and to please be honest with us.

Of course it was a joke mom! Was his simple response.

As I get older, I become more kind to my children. I realize more and more that loving them, and having them be happy is more important than anything else in the world. I still have to remember though, that it is important to make sure they tell the truth, even though it is so cute to have my son try to tell my that hamburgers and fries are healthy.

He was just making you feel good as a mom my oldest rolled her eyes at me.

Sure honey, whatever the case, I realize my youngest gets a lot more kindness than my oldest, and I hope even more that my softness doesn't end up leaving him without a good mold.

I was the hardest with my oldest who also happens to be a girl
But I don’t think it was the gender as opposed to being the first and motherhood was so new to me.
And as they started coming one by one the boys, they were so different from her.
And still are.
The oldest of the boys is so hard headed and even more so as a teen .... I feel I had it easy with my girl hahahaha
Yes I too am different with all of them only because they are all so different.

You are doing great Mama
And I have a feeling he knew that you were not buying his tall tales and was just trying his luck
Very cute though 😁

I totally get what you mean. My oldest is such a flower...

My younger ones are flowers too, because flowers come in all shapes and sizes. HAHAH

You are right, his demeanor was definitely energy filled, almost even a bit flirtatious.

Thank you for visiting, I enjoy your comments.
