I'm Absolutely Enamored With Typeearn

So yesterday I was perusing the trending page on steemit and came across a post by @tykee about typeearn (@typeearnblog) and their token, typecoin .

Honestly, at first, I didn't have much of a reaction to it and kept scrolling but then I began to think about typing class in high school. You see, I am pretty "old school" and in High School we actually had typing class.

It wasn't called Keyboarding as it is now. In fact there were no personal computers in wide use at the time. My only experience with computers at the time was a school field trip to the local university to see their computer room which contained a mainframe and a keyboard. We weren't even allowed to touch it although we were allowed to sit on the floor and eat our lunch by it lol.

This was probably 1983 and when I went off to college in 1986, our freshmen supply list didn't have a laptop on it, or even a word processor on it. It simply said manual typewriter! So as you can imagine Typing class in high school was way different than most of you are imagining.

But, it was my favorite class because you got to do something and it seemed like I was actually learning something as well. I wasn't face planted on my desk with drool dripping from my mouth. I was engaged.

I remember being mildly excited about class and not just because I got to sit by Michelle Krallinger but because I got to type by her lol. The thing that made i fun was it was like being in a rock band and practice.

The teacher would stand up in the front and call out letters and we we smack em out. After a while we were good enough to bang them out in unison.

She would bark out "A space A space E space , " and things like that . When we we in the zone the whole class would sound like a very stiff group of robots playing a monotone song. And then was the return which sounded like a 3 second zip.

It was certainly odd and now much different I imagine but it was fun and really the only class I learned from. I had to think, I had to practice and I had to develop muscle memory. It was also gamified because you were racing against the class and your self.

Fast forward 35ish years to today on the steem blockchain and I can have the fun again. Although it sounds odd as a way to participate on the blockchain, it's actually very intriguing.

You work on your typing skills and your results earn you typecoin based on your achievement. So there is always room for improvement and earnings growth.

It's actually super fun and I liken it to some of those cognitive improvement games some of us old folks play on the computer over at Luminosity. Anything designed to make your brain work will help against cognitive decline so I'm excited that I can mine crypto for free and stay sharp.

You need to have 20 typecoin on steem-engine in order to earn more coins so I bought them, played 5 times today (the 24 hour limit I believe) and withdrew to steem-engine to test the process.

Now holding more token will raise the formula to allow you earn more as you play.

The game itself is challenging but you quickly find your week spots. Mine is in my lack of ability to look ahead while I typo and I fell into some traps that way. I also do better when I try and keep an even speed. The same cadence between each letter or symbol without trying to speed up if i see an easy work. My other problem is starting a new work as I'm still pressing space. That causes an error.

I think I will certainly play this 5 times a day because it is mildly addicting and as I get better I feel like I'll want to mine more as long as the economics are good. So go check it out by following the link to Tykee's Post because it explains all the hows and why's I didn't go into.
