Treed on Tuedays

IMG_9028 Cherry Blossoms.JPG

Trees are both beautiful and useful. A true twofer. Rainforests actually produce about 30% of the earth's oxygen. But did you know that 70% of the planet's oxygen is provided, courtesy of marine plants? That of course, is a subject for another post, but, I was using it to show the comparison. .“ A single mature tree can absorb carbon dioxide at a rate of 48 lbs./year and release enough oxygen back into the atmosphere to support 2 human beings.

Hail the majesty of the tree! In honor of the tree, I dedicate this post to #TreeTuesday by @Old-Guy-Photos. Above, the beauty of the lovely cherry trees along the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC, where the area is flooded with tourists every spring to view the beauty. It is simply breathtaking.

image.png

The loveliness of trees cannot possibly be overstated. The shade they add to your property cuts down on the cooling bill and just having your property properly landscaped adds value to it. Trees run abundant at the house on the Shore, commonly referred to as the Shore House. It has a convenient branch for me to hang this huge basket on, which I always put some flowers. This is just a pecan tree, but there are seventeen, give or take a few, of these humongous babies surrounding the property. Coupled along with seventeen Black Walnut, (which, by the way, does anyone know a good way of retrieving the nuts out of these without making a sticky black mess???) Pears, Apples, Asian Apples, six Fig and a Partridge in a Pear Tree. Too many more to mention.

text16.png

I was totally serious about the black walnuts. I left the shore one-weekend after collecting all the pecans I could, which totaled into the double digits of bushels and ran back home. leaving the shore behind. I left the squirrels in charge to dispose of them. need I say they were a slight fail? They planted more than they ate I think and now I have black walnuts coming up all over, not to be outdone by the hundreds of fig-trees, planted by the neighboring chickens. Oi!

image.png

Who doesn't love a tree? Hug a tree, embrace life! I cannot imagine hiking through a forest without the benefit of a tree or three.

Gather your feelings
Hide them in the clouds
Until the weight of time
Has blown them away
Forever

Shhhh! I know you have seen one of my favorite trees before, I am just scrolling through some, pulling one from here and there. Maybe adding a little prose or words or something to make it post-worthy..

log cabin on the battlefeild 2.JPG

The Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park preserves the site of the 1863 battle as well as Confederate camps in 1861 and 1862. The peaceful 140-acre battlefield is host to both walking and equestrian trails. All of the Civil War Battlefields are used for both education and recreation. They have guided tours by knowledgeable forest rangers that tell the story as they show you some of the relics left behind. Old cannons, log cabins for shelter in the winter and cemeteries where they laid their dead to rest in peace.

Once upon a time,, this little cabin was a tree, although it is beyond my pay grade to even guess what kind of tree it was.

From a Soldier's perspective concerning the American Civil War, it was not a continuous, ongoing series of battles, but rather there were marches that were longer and longer, and they took up residence in camps interrupted by bouts of fighting. The soldiers carried their life on their backs, or in a wagon train. There was no telling how long their stay would be at any given camp. Between battles and marching to the next station, during the downtime in the winter months, they build log cabins to keep the cold at bay. They used the plentiful pines and wood in the surrounding forest and built temporary camps. I cannot imagine the hardship.

image.png

A woodland walk among the leaves
Guided by the gentlest breeze
Branches so golden and roots, deep still in the earth
Shading my life from the decades that are spinning
Until
One day
My tall, sturdy knight
Standing through the weather
the seasons of life
In this world that I had created
An all-knowing sense
Of truth, as we know it
Littering the Earth
Converging into one

image.png

The image is of profound beauty, not of the picture itself, but the brilliance that shines on everything it touches, especially my soul.

As always, there must be a flower. I dedicate this picture to #TuesdayOrange #ColorChallenge by @Kalemandra, who colors my world every single day.

And just like that, this post is over. From beginning to end, I'll do it again, probably tomorrow. Have an amazing day! Do something fabulous!💖 I also want to take a moment to thank @Old-Guy-Photos for hosting the #TreeTuesday challenge. Join the tag and have some fun with it!

Thank you for visiting my post 💖 Because of you, I come back to post, again and again, Some days, it is not as easy to see, how wonderful our world really is. Kindness counts. Wherever you go, whatever you do.

they set my aunts house on fire
i cried the way women on tv do
folding at the middle
like a five pound note.
i called the boy who use to love me
tried to ‘okay’ my voice
i said hello
he said warsan, what’s wrong, what’s happened?

i’ve been praying,
and these are what my prayers look like;
dear god
i come from two countries
one is thirsty
the other is on fire
both need water.

later that night
i held an atlas in my lap
ran my fingers across the whole world
and whispered,
"where does it hurt?"
it answered,

"everywhere"
"everywhere"
"everywhere"

Thanks for the tip...❤️
PS: you could also use !DERANGED and or !BEER instead of tips... it doesn't cost you anything (just my 2 cents 😂)

Because my voting power is so low, I feel like I should give something and so I do the tips. I am probably wrong in the way I think! :O

I'm the last one to say you're wrong in the way you think 😂
But no joking... are you telling me you don't know how !BEER & !DERANGED work? You even have a lot of !ENGAGE...
Using them is much cheaper for you (in fact it's free) than using steem with your tips...

I actually don't! I have never used them and although I have some staked, I haven't a clue how to do it.

I know, right??? You can't believe it either. LOL

I still think you are worthy!

hahahahaha... unbelievable 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Well, here we go...

For BEER you can give 0.1 beer per 6 staked beers/per day. Just use an exclamation mark followed by BEER in a comment and people will receive 0.1 beer in their wallet... (and it's not coming from your wallet!) Even more, the more beer you give out, the more beer-rewards you get...

For DERANGED you can give 1 deranged per 5 deranged in your wallet/per day. No need to stake here and call it just like beer...

For ENGAGE you need to have a least 1000 Engage in your wallet. Call it like beer & deranged in a comment followed by a number. For example !ENGAGE 50 (sorry, I don't have 1000 myself)

Of course you can buy or sell all these tokens on steem-engine... but I prefer to use them as a better alternative to tips 😉

You know, I sometimes grow tired of the #margarinemonday tags and movements even though I love them for their inclusiveness and inspiration for real people to produce real content.

Regardless, every one of your posts is produced with such effort and investment, I would probably love it even if you posted in #toiletthursday.

You are such a flower!

Oh, Zeke @zekepickleman!! I'm on it!!! What a brilliant idea! Who would have thought of #toiletthursday? Truly!!! Maybe @meesterboom, but, I think he is busy with his own Thursday tag... something about being thirsty or hmm. Now, I don't want to lie. I just don't know. Don't tell.

Pinky Swear?

Hahaha! You had me going for a second. I had to look it up.. wondering what kind of perv would introduce such a tag. Then I thought of about 10 people that would. I really need to get some new more friends.

Well, Darlin, you are such a hoot and Hollar. Always. So, have yourself a great night and thank you for stopping by and leaving your two cents. And thank you.

Truly.

I have to be honest that is something I didn't know
Walnut trees are so grand we had to big ones growing at home when I was growing up, Was climbing it all the time much to my mothers angst and worry but I dont know what sort of walnut tree it was

I love walnut trees and they are huge!!! Aren't they? I probably would die if any of my kids crawled up them! LOL But, to be honest with you, they are most beautiful and their canopies allow for the shade to fall nicely upon the house and keep it cool in the heat of the summer.

I don't think it matters what kind of walnut tree it is, they are all quite magnificent!

Have a great day and thank you for stopping by and leaving your always nice words!

Wind back "Partridge in a Pear!"... Oh dear still lost in the pear trees.

Now I do like the idea of #toilettalk #toiletthursday who knows where that would lead?

On a serious note, I don't like wars and warriors, do love the rustic cabin in the snow, Oh dream on, one day to run in snow drinking hot chocolate in front of a log fire (perhaps red wine too).

Red rubber ball slipping down into the cold water another great capture Denise.

Haha! I just couldn't resist that Partridge in the Pear Tree! Ha! I knew someone would catch me slipping a little Christmas in there somewhere! I promise no more!! Geez! Christmas is over! Stop begging for more! :)

I just found out that #toiletthurday was @brillandjosies and I just about lost it! LOL Sweet. innocent little Dutch Girl, pushing out posts about her toilets... I just can't wrap my head around it. No, no!! I will just take a peek tomorrow.

I don't like wars but, I live in the peripheral of one of their battlefields and the reality of it part of life. I don't have to glorify it or be a warmonger, but, all the same, just like warts on a nose, it is there for all to see. And I do love cabins in the snow, so there is that too.

Oh, as always, thanks for stopping by and leaving your magic words. Have a beautiful day in South Africa! xoxo

Oh, thank you! I really do love the Shore House, as you know. It is the one place that I can run away and play. Close to the water and peaceful. Plus, all those glorious trees!

Noooo~ Cherry blossoms will be here in less than two months, maybe less I this heat keeps up! I have never had a winter in the Northeast. Feels weird.

Roses are always a winner. Truly. Hey you! Happy Wednesday!

I really enjoyed this post @dswigle. Had me with the first photo, as it along with many of your pictures, brings back fond memories of my youth. I had the blessing to spend a number of years in a very old home on a 3-acre property with a type of fruit tree that environment supported. Not only every type, but multiple varieties of each type. The elderly gentleman who had built the place from scratch in the early 1900s was skilled enough to even have grafts of more than one variety from the same trunk. I was a magical wonderland for a boy to grow up in.

Our favorite fruit was the cherries. Since the orchard was way, way past its prime, they were huge trees, so we'd climb into the tops of them and +30 feet off of the ground. We'd eat the tree ripened fruit and have "seed fights" by squirting the slippery pits between our fingers at our siblings ...

We also had a couple of very large black walnut trees. One of which held our beloved tree house - about 30 feet up off of the ground. We'd sleep up there and the gentle winds blowing down from the canyon would sway us to sleep ...

I remember the stain on our fingers from breaking the black walnuts open. And a real pain to get the "meat" of them out of their shells. But, wow, what a wonderful flavor they had. They were by far our favorite nut. 👌

I'll close with letting you know what may already be familiar to you. Black walnut wood is very valuable, if harvested properly. Not that I am encouraging you to cut down any trees ... 😏

I missed climbing on a Guava tree. We used to have a guava tree beside our house, my main source of fruit when I was just a kid.
