Fall Trees Collection 9: The Bigger Perspective [Photography]
Enjoy this collection of many photos displaying full-sized trees captured in frame, with many autumn leaf colors.
In past my past Fall Tree Collections posted in the past weeks, I've shared many images of leaf colors up close. This time, the theme is looking at the actual trees.
Appreciating their full size.
Looking at the trunks, branches, bark, and even the roots.
Seeing how they fit into the landscape.
66 photos in this collection. All original works. Some personal musings included near the end.

This tree pictured below gave me a good ideal to strive for when considering how I style my #bonsai trees. This tree has many #deadwood portions.
In bonsai, when a large dead limb is preserved for the sake of the beauty and design, they call it a #Jin or #Shari.
The basic idea is that the dead #limbs tell a lot about the history of the tree, such as where the trunk used to be. It stands as reminder of a traumatic event that forever changed the character of the tree. Somehow, it goes on living and finds new ways of unfolding it's beauty despite its visible scars.

Bonus
Not even close to a full sized tree, this small gooseberry shrub in my garden is starting to take on the shape of a mature tree.
If you didn't know it was 16 inches tall, a drawing of this tree trunk would look not so different than a sixteen-year-old maple tree.
I've been pruning this young shrub over the past couple years to stay low to develop a strong trunk and many sideward branches. Ideally this shrub will develop many edible berries that will be accessible when it grows into a vase shape set of branches.
It is inspiring to me that every tree shape is unique. A sort of footprint representing the story of its existence up until that day. Tomorrow the tree will be different than it was today. Perhaps a leaf will fall, or a branch will break. A bug may bore a hole. It will always grow slightly, though unnoticeable until many added days of growth becomes visible.
Each day it ages, it becomes more different in shape than before. The rings inside its bark record every year since its birth, some thicker and darker than others. Each ring becomes a permanent marking, and a wrinkle in time.
