Journey to the highest mountain lake in Ukraine. After rain

avatar

Well, yesterday’s fears came true - at night there was such a downpour that we almost were flooded. Although our "hut" was on the rise, still under many karemat there was water. The most unpleasant moment was that those of the participants of the campaign, who were lying closer to the edge of the inclined wall, in contact with the awning received a portion of large drops on their face.

Thank God, until the morning the rain stopped, and we were able to get out into the street. It was damp and wet all around. But soon the sun came out, and we were able to dry our things.

A primitive tent where we all slept

Standing on the sunlit shore is nice after a night of rain

At the foot of the green hill

We did not have a tourist tent with us, just a simple tent that needed to be set up somehow. For this, we used improvised tools. This pine branch withstood the load from powerful streams of water.

An impromptu column in our primitive tent.

This pine branch withstood a rainy night

We swam in the lake after breakfast, taking advantage of the short presence of the sun. Then the fog fell again, and we gathered go further on the road.

It's time to go further

We returned back along the Montenegrin ridge, planning to reach Goverla, it was even darker than yesterday.

Gloomy mountains

We planned to climb Hoverla, many of our company were not there yet, but a sudden thunderstorm crossed out everything. A thunderstorm in the mountains is a terrible and very dangerous phenomenon. On the same ridge a little further there is a cross, which indicates the place of death of two climbers from a lightning strike.

Therefore, we decided as soon as possible to go down to the valley, away from trouble. It seemed that the sky would now fall on our heads, so thunder thundered. Lightnings raged and torn the skies, rain poured all around, visibility was zero, fortunately no one broke anything. We were completely wet, all in the mud from repeated falls. When we got to the cars, we were just happy.

When we were dressed in dry things (fortunately, we wrapped things with waterproof film), someone suggested we climb the mountains again, but most of us were against it. Therefore, our hike ended much faster than we had planned. But it was an interesting experience :)
