Olkinya Lasho
The first big cat we saw on our game drive on the Maasai Mara in Kenya was a cheetah or olkinya lasho in Maa. What a beautiful animal!
On our game drive we had two vehicles. It was so fun capturing Cameron photographing the cheetah walking towards him.
He had worked with cheetah's last summer in Zambia and it was the animal he most wanted to see on our game drive. He got his wish!
Note: Some people have asked if it is scary being in the jeep with the animals so close. NOT AT ALL. They do not pay attention or care about the vehicles.
Look at that face!
Cheetah's have black tear-like streaks on their face.

Some more cool facts about cheetahs.
- They are the fastest land animal, running up to 70 mph
- They have solid black spots all over their bodies
- The gestation period is three months, with litters of 3-5 cubs
- Female cheetahs live to 15 years and males live to 10 years
- They live in dry forests and savannas (like the Mara)
- In 2016, it was estimated that there are just 7,100 cheetahs remaining in the wild

I wish the wikipedia entry for cheetah's looked like this. I'd learn a lot more with half really insightful pictures and some fun facts.
Well thank you very much!
So everywhere females live longer than males, not just with humans. Any reason with the cheetahs?

I don't know why
No problem. Thanks for the education

I really enjoyed your photos and thanks for sharing your journey @sjarvie5
One suggestion, for the sections you put photos left sided, or in the section you talk about food, it would be good if you can hyperlink those photos to their original size (to the link provided by steemit when you upload your photos).
Besides that I enjoyed the whole story!
Thanks for sharing!
♥♥♥
Thanks @hgn66. I use @steempeak and through that platform when you click on the picture it goes to a larger size. You should check @steempeak out.
Well that was a good point!
Your suggestion for me just made this amazing post an amazing learning too.
Thanks ♥

Glad I could introduce you to @steempeak. It is such a great platform!
oh my god dear @sjarvie5, what a beautiful animal !! so majestic and elegant, with that hair so perfect! I love him :-)) your photos are beautiful. Africa must be wonderful, but I'm not ready for it yet! but I can't wait to do a photo safari in some African land !! congratulations on your curie rating and thanks for sharing
Thank you @road2horizon. It was wonderful and I am sure will be for you when you are ready!
You must have enjoyed that trip so much Sara. It looks like a photographer's dream :) Those photos are perfect! I also wondered how it feels to be so close to such predators and I'm surprised to hear that they don't pay too much attention to the cars. I thought they were curious.. but maybe they just got used to cars in that region..
Have a good start of the week!
Thank you Martina. Yes, I think they get so used to so many vehicles driving past them all day.
