Wat Phra Chetuphon - Temple of the Reclining Buddha - Lots of photos
วัดพระเชตุพนวิมลมังคลารามราชวรมหาวิหาร
Wat Phra Chetuphon also known as Wat Pho is one must visit Temples if you make your way to Thailand.
When you first enter Wat Pho you are greeted by these structures that are called Phra Chedi Rai. Across the temple, there are 71 of these and they vary in size. 71 of them contain the ashes of the royal family and the remaining 20 contain different relics of Buddha.
There is so much detail in everything and it is incredible to walk through these grounds and to know that there is such history and meaning behind everything there.
The temple grounds also had many different statues all over the place. A lot of the statues were of men doing different yoga type poses and different traditional massage type poses. Wat Pho is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage and you can even get a massage there on the grounds, but it is quite expensive.
Faith and I got Thai massages and the lady that was giving me a massage folded me up into a pretzel a few times and some of the statues poses reminded me of the pain that I felt during that massage.
There were so many awesome statues all over the temple ground and the detail in all of them is pretty amazing.
Some of the statues had obvious signs of wear and age on them. Wat Pho is the oldest temple is Bangkok and the restoration of the original site began in 1788.
There were plenty of Buddha statues, with over 1000 of them, and prayer rooms around the temple grounds.
The busiest section of the temple was the room with the Reclining Buddha. It is nearly impossible to get a picture of the Buddha without anyone in the shot. It is almost as impossible to get the whole Buddha in frame as well.
The massive Buddha is 46 meters long and stands 15 meters tall, making it the largest Buddha in all of Thailand.
The Buddha's feet were decorated with mother-of-pearl inlay and they depict the 108 attributes of the true Buddha.
One of the most interesting things that I learned about the Reclining Buddha is that the position that the the he is in was depicting the final position that the real Buddha was in during his last moments alive before he passed away into nirvana.
So as you walk around the Buddha, you are taken on a spiritual journey as you realize that you are witnessing Buddha's death.
One of the cool things while there at Wat Pho was watching Faith get creative with her pictures.
@faitherz33 should be making her post about Wat Pho soon, so you can see her images that she took while we were there, so make sure to give her a follow and you can see what she captured.
It was really cool to see people around the temple grounds praying, meditating and paying their respects.
Wat Phra Chetuphon is a must see when you are in Bangkok. There is so much history and detail within the walls of this beautiful temple. Make sure that you give yourself enough time truly enjoy grounds. There is a lot to see there and it is easy to lose track of time when you are looking at all of the details.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my post and look at all of my pictures. I hope that you enjoyed it. You are awesome.

Your post is so awesome. Took me back to the day I was able to visit this place. I must admit I didn't pay much attention to the statues around the place. I'll need to revisit and see its wonder with more details 😉👍 enjoy your weekend!
