A Road Trip Home and An Old Memory Revisited
Last weekend we took a quick trip across the Cascade Mountain Range in the Pacific Northwest to visit family in the Portland/Vancouver area. Since there was forecast snow for the trip home we decided to take a little longer route but one that would keep us off of the mountain passes and out of the snow. The following are some shots of our trip through the Columbia River Gorge and then the trip south on the east side of the Cascades to our home in Central Oregon.

A shot of one of the Chandeliers at the Heathman Lodge in Vancouver WA where we spent the night. I believe the image depicts life on the Columbia River prior to the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
After we left Vancouver WA we crossed the bridge and started our trip east into the gorge on the Oregon side of the river.
A couple shots of Multnomah Falls about 30 minutes into our trip.
Here we are back on the Washington side of the river coming up to The Dalles OR in the distance on the far right of the shot. At this point you can see the weather is starting to clear a little as we prepare to cross the river once more begin our journey south on HWY 197.
Leaving The Dalles we are now entering the freshly planted rolling wheat fields.
Entering the small town of Dufur OR we see some of the grain silos for the wheat.
Usually from this area there is a superb view of snow capped Mt Hood. Today you can only see the edge of the storm currently dumping snow in the Cascades.
A couple shots as we begin to enter the high desert of Central Oregon.
The Old Memory
Further south we are now on HWY 97 heading to Redmond OR.
This is the old bridge over the Crooked River Gorge that they turned into a rest area. A lot times we pass by here there are bungee jumpers here plunging over the edge of the 300 some foot tall bridge.
My memory though is not about bungee jumping but of a nearly 60 year old visit I made here with my parents.

This is the same bridge around 1962. That's me and my mom heading down the steps while my dad takes the picture from across the way.
Photos taken by me, @oldmans, with a Nikon D3300 and some Lightroom post processing. 35mm slide taken by my father with an unknown camera. Scanned by me with a PowerSlide 5000 using VueScan x64 software. There is also some Lightroom editing applied by me.
Thanks for looking and enjoy your day!

They are pretty cool. :) The upper and lower falls together are about a 620 foot drop. Of course the upper falls account for about 524 feet of that. :)
