Bellagio Christmas - Los Vegas, Nevada

A Sight To See

We just returned home from a several day trip to Las Vegas, where we met up with my sister-in-law who was there for a military conference.

It just so happened that my son was also visiting from Texas, so we all drove out there together from Los Angeles! It was a good 4.5 hour drive, but not too bad since we left early in the morning. We missed most of the horrific traffic!

Amanda and I are already pretty bored with casinos and we're not huge fans of being bombarded with cigarette smoke so decided to have a walk around the non-smoky areas of the hotels.

We were staying in the Paris, which is big that it feels like a cruise ship at times. It's like its own self contained city! Anyway, we decided to take a walk across the street and check out the holiday decorations at the Bellagio.

It's quite the festive display this year! They really pack a lot into a fairly small area. They clearly put a lot of work into this exhibit and I think it turned out great.

I think the little mini fountains were my favorite. Mostly because I was mesmerized by the different lights and bright colors. I think I sat and stared at the water for quite some time.

The giant Christmas tree ornaments were quite impressive, as well as the playful polar bears that were all over the place.

The glittery ornaments brought back intense memories from when I was a little kid. I remember each year my mom would get out all of the decorations. I would stare into the bulbs and get lost in the sparkles and shiny glory of the bulbs. I was an easily impressed kid.

This contraption was pretty cool as well. It wasn't exactly part of the exhibit, but something that was for sale. It shoots up tiny foam balls which make it appear to snow. This also hypnotized me for about 5 minutes.

There were also a lot of these creepy elves around. To me they look like weird mutated Pee-Wee Hermans. My brain does weird stuff.

There were several of these horses lined up. They actually gave me a good freak out because the tails would randomly move. At first you don't realize that they do anything then they just swoosh around. It can be a bit startling if you weren't expecting it.

So if you're in Vegas on the strip around the holidays, it's worth taking a quick stop in the Bellagio to check this exhibit out. It only takes a few minutes to walk through, but is worth the feelings of nostalgia that it brings up.

Also, it's a great temporary escape from the ubiquitous smoke which seems to permeate the entire town. Happy Holidays!

Thanks bro! Yeah man it was really cool. The amazing thing to me about Vegas is how no matter what time of year you go, it's always completely packed. Basically a party, 365 days a year.

Thank you, @abigail-dantes! I can be a bit of a bummer around Christmas time, mostly because I suck at gift giving. But (as my other half would say) I am getting better at it.

Happy holidays to you and yours as well!

I love the Bellagio! It is probably one of my favorite casinos in the city. My wife and I just went there this past Spring and it has been the third time that each of us has been there. Only two of them together though. What I have really noticed since my first trip is that there are way more kids running around that you would think should be. Vegas isn't someplace I would feel comfortable taking my 10 year old. Also more recently it feels like everywhere you walk you are inundated with weed smoke. I prefer to decide whether I want to imbibe or not on my own terms! Fantastic photos!

Yeah, the smoke alternated from weed smoke to cigarette smoke about every 50 feet or so of walking. That being said, most of the 'weed' smoke we found out is actually just CBD. There are 'dispensaries' all over the street there now, but they are selling CBD pretending it's THC (CBD is legal to smoke on the strip). I noticed loads of people buying it thinking that they're buying real pot. I mean, it smells the same when it burns, but no high.

Either way, all of the smoke everywhere sucks. And yeah, I noticed a lot of kids running around on this trip. Interesting!

At any rate, I can only stand to visit about once every couple of years. I've been home for a couple of days now and I still feel like crap!

That is very interesting about the smoke. Our friend went to one off the strip and got some stuff while we were there. I think one of the cab or Uber drivers took him there. My wife and I pretty much decided that we are probably done with Vegas now. There are too many other places we want to see. Actually, our favorite day on this last trip was the day we rented a car and just drove out into the desert. I wrote a bunch of posts about it back then. I wouldn't expect you to dig through my feed to find them though :)
