We drove over the mountains of Lebanon to visit the ancient ruins of Baalbek. When we reached the Beqqa valley floor the car's engine just stopped for no apparent reason.
This mysterious car breakdown en route to Baalbek in the Beqqa valley Lebanon was pretty spooky!!?

In the car were my wife and myself both senior citizens, our grandson who was a baby at the time and my daughter his mother. What were we going to do now?

It was a brand new rental car and had not given us any sign that there was anything wrong with it.

When the car broke down our daughter Natalie took off running down the long empty dusty highway in blistering 40 degree heat to seek help.

The situation was very unusual and pretty dangerous in that heat with no air conditioning. We found out why Ballbek city of the sun got it's name. It was scorchingly hot in the car in seconds and opening the car door was like sitting in a blast furnace.

We had been driving the car for weeks and had never had a problem with it.
Although I make light of it now in this itroduction above it was pretty scary at the time for many reasons other than just the heat.

Watch the video to find out what happened.

The mysterious ruins at Baalbek are amazing and we wanted to see them while we had the chance.

Baalbek is a world heritage site and the Lebanese are preserving it.
We wanted to see Baalbek before it gets destoyed or vanishes forever in this war torn region.
