As much as I love going to the beach, I just couldn't swim there because I am not a good swimmer. The last time I ever drenched myself in the beach was in 2017, and I even didn't go far from the shores. It was in Ilocos Sur, by which there are lots of rock formations that can protect you from the waves.

I actually live in the coastal town of Lingayen. In fact, it is just less than a kilometer away from home. Nevertheless, the last time I even immersed to the sea was way back in 2004. I do visit the sea, but I just wade my feet in the water, or have some fresh air.

In Lingayen Beach

As I said, I am not a good swimmer that's why I didn't bother to swim in the beach in my town. The reason is there has been incidents when people drowned. It happens in some beaches, and the one in my town used to have multiple incidents yearly.

The local government cannot be blamed for the drowning because they are doing their responsibilities well. There are lifeguards who are doing their best to save people. There are flags and ropes that warns people not to cross the line. Warning signs are all over the place too.

This is the beach flag warning I am talking about. These flags are in the beach which warns people swimming in the water. It alerts people to take extra caution.

We cannot see this while drowning. But we can memorize these warnings before going to the sea.

There are incidents of jellyfish stings in the beach. These tips can help, but of course, the one stung by jellyfish isn't the one who can exactly do these.

Of course, everyone should be environment-friendly. Do not throw the garbage anywhere, except at the proper waste disposal. There are trash bins located anywhere else to litter trashes.

I am not sure if our town is tsunami-prone. There's a belief that tsunami is unlikely in gulf coasts, considering Lingayen Gulf is a small one. But rare things happen. Thus, there's this tsunami warning sign posted.

In order to be safe, it is wise to heed the advise and warnings. It is for our own welfare, and the people we love who are visiting the beach.
