Market Friday visits Bermuda

avatar
(Edited)

Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!!)I hope you will join us as we share the different markets. It has been such a pleasure to see markets from all over the world. Who doesn't love to see what they are selling? There is always a curiosity attached to foreign ingredients, different produce or any product sold. So, yes! I would love to see yours! Don't forget to take photos wherever you happen to be shopping - whether it be the grocery, art galleries, wherever money is exchanged for a service or for merchandise. Don't forget to use the community tag #hive-196308 or hashtag #MarketFriday and @dswigle. I know, so many are confused by how/when to use these tags. If you use a community tag, it must be posted first. (the hive tag)

Please leave the link to your post on here so it can easily be found by others. They will all be in one place. Where else can you take such a quick trip around the globe? Thank you! ❤

I have not made it a secret that I was hiding out in Bermuda about a month ago. It is like a mini paradise. (I say mini paradise because the entire island is 22 miles long and 1 mile wide!) So, I was taking a walk through the Royal Naval Dockyardsand I came to a sign that said."Bermuda Glassblowing Studio and Rum Cake Factory."

In we go! Who could resist a glassblower? Not this girl. I was told they demonstrate and have a small gallery from which you can watch. They set up a few chairs and do all of their creating right there, on display. All that fun and money too. What a great way to make a living!

#alwaysaflower

Oh! But, first a flower!
I am always about the flowers.
Thank you for indulging me.

The glassblowing was fascinating to watch. I asked if I could take pictures and they were very happy to accommodate me. Most places seem to be amiable about taking pictures if I ask permission first..

So, I usually do.

As you can see in the set of four pictures, the girl puts the molten glass in the furnace (or crucible) They said they heat it to almost 2,000 degrees. Holy moly. Heating it makes it easier to work with and shape. I was amazed at how they used tools to make bowls, dishes, and glass animals.

See more here

Ribbet collage.jpg

There were several people doing the more intricate work of small flowers. It was truly fascinating to watch them heat up and pull the petals a certain way, right before my very eyes, making nothing into something.

They are complex and layered, such beautiful objects of decorated art.

Ribbet collage2.jpg

Handmade, beautiful and each and every piece is a unique piece. It is in this warehouse/gallery that they showcase the designs and intricate work that goes into glass blowing. Some pieces are shaped after they have been heated and some are blown.

Did I happen to mention that their flowers are always in bloom?

IMG_0296a.JPG

I am going back in a short bit. When I do, I am going to come back with one of these beauties in my luggage. I wanted to have one made for me that would mean something, soI put off buying one this trip.

I am always enamored by people who had the talent, learned or inherited, to create such beauty. I had a wonderful day, and the time was well spent. I am looking forward to going back again.

IMG_0299.JPG

I never showed you the rum cakes, but, that was because we ate them all up. I know! I know! But, believe it or not, everyone in there cleaned them out. And that was the warehouse.

Le Sigh.

Next time. The first thing I buy will be a rum cake so I can take a picture of it for you. Then eat it.

Much appreciation for following and reading #MarketFriday! It is such a great pleasure to see all of you again! Thank you!!! ♥ ♥ ♥

i’ve been praying,

Have you been there again, Denise?

I have read a review of you about this, and I was fascinated, and it fascinates me again this time same as last time!!! 😍😍😍

I really would like to see glassblowing in person. I never knew this kind of craft existed til I read it on your blog. Tsk! Too much things yet for me to see and explore!

It is so sweet of you for taking us there, thank you @dswigle.

And here is my contribution:

Sorry, it's not a super duper "MarketFriday" post that I usually do, but all except the papaya involved money. So I think it can pass for a #MarketFriday. Hahaha! 😂

Forgive me on this one. I'll make it up next time (as my son is sick and I cannot make long posts now). Thank you for understanding. ❤❤❤

Oh, yes!!! I went back again and I will be going back in a few month's time. It is a short airplane ride there and a nice place to go for a few days.

I am so sorry to hear about your son being sick. I truly understand and I hope he feels better soon. Never worry. You know we will always be here every week. :)

All of your #MarketFriday posts are cherished. I love that you always put so much thought and #Steemitlove into them~! And Yes!!! You know we have no real rules! Only guidelines!

I want to thank you for always supporting the challenge and for dropping the link!

Ohhhhh.. 😍 Someday, someday, I will be there. But if that someday doesn't come, please keep posting about it and I'll keep reading. 😛😉

Yes, I'm pretty worries especially the Covid-19 is in the rise in our country. But so far no one is positive yet in our city. But who knows? 😢😭 Anyway, I'm hoping for the best. Hope he will get better today, or we will really have him checked at the hospital. 😢

I'm so glad to see you again. Did you say the island? Magic word! Wonderful memories ...
The art of glass is miraculous and very difficult to do. In Romania there has been a glass industry in the past. They also made balloons for Christmas ...
Chinese products destroyed the glass industry unfortunately.
How good they allowed you to shoot!

0

avatar

I ask permission most places I go and I have been fortunate to be able to shoot at almost all.

I agree that a lot of finer art has been destroyed because of cheaper, lesser quality products that have replaced them.

The art of glass is so very special. I went to the island of Murano, off the coast of Venice, Italy and saw the most incredible glass blowing demonstration ever! I had no idea at the time how famous their glass was, but, it certainly was incredible to watch their skill in person.

Balloons for Christmas? That sounds interesting! Oh, yes! Island is always a magic word! :)

Thank you so much, Dan @bluemoon

Oh, what a coincidence! I received your reply while writing on your blog. I put the link for my market (with some delay) ...
Murano glass, famous and expensive! I think it was a joy to see how it is done. Hi, Denise! How are you?

0

avatar

That is a coincidence!! Thank you for putting a link in!

Oh, the trip to Murano was amazing. I have gone three times now, but, the first time was over 20 years ago. It is so very expensive, but, honestly, it was more expensive in Murano than it was at home!!!! Can you believe that??? I couldn't.

I am doing fine and was very troubled by the inability to post or comment or anything for a while. I am still shut out of Steempeak, it won't recognize my name or password. :( I will get it all sorted but in the meantime.... it is irritating the way our platform is gone as we know it.

I miss the old Steemit. How are you, Dan? @bluemoon

To start with the end ... I don't really know what I'm doing. I am confused by what happens with Steemit, I thought that would happen (I suffered with a few programs as well, but not for the same reasons)

At the same time, this crisis with the coronavirus. The uncertain future and possible unpleasant consequences. In Bucharest there are most cases of infection (and we are just beginning) ... there are many restrictions.
I have to try not to contaminate myself, firstly because of my granddaughter, then, because we are in the risk group, because of age.

0

avatar

To be honest, your granddaughter is more likely to infect you than you her. For some reason, the younger generation seems to be less affected by it than the aged population.

Take good care of yourself and your wife, Dan! @bluemoon

The situation with Steemit has made me so very sad. It has been the one great platform out of all that I have ever been on.

Hopefully, things will sort themselves out.

My granddaughter is five months old and I hope she doesn't think about infecting me, maybe just with some youth!
Thanks for the wishes @dswigle, I hope with all my heart that you have no such problems and this virus to stay away from you.
As for Steemit, it looks like we're going to the end ...

The blown glass is incredibly gorgeous, isn't it? Oh, they just opened one up there? How cool is that!? I hope they have an area where one can watch it, it is absolutely fabulous to watch the art being created!

I am sure you will have an awesome post lined up for us! I can hardly wait! Thank you for being part of the challenge and for giving me constant support! I was able to post by editing an existing post and inserting this one. I then had to edit it again after posting it as none of the pictures would open up, but, the new ones I inserted did. How freaking weird is this????

Thanks for the tokens!

That looks like a place that I would love! That is because I love things made of glass and collect them! They are beautiful pieces of art. It is intriguing how it can be shaped to create something.

This shop is one of my favorite places when I go to Bermuda. I know you all are probably tired of it, but, I like looking at it more than buying it. I am always amazed at the talent of people. As I have no artistic ability, it makes me happy to watch people create.

Thank you, once again for your support and for your #Steemitlove! I appreciate you dropping your link as well. I am sitting here hoping that we can survive this takeover and still do well. :(
