What Do You Do When You Find Out You're Camping A Mere 20 Miles From 'The Best Brewery in the World'?

You hie your arse to it, that's what!

Shaun Hill, the owner and brewer of Hill Farmstead Brewery, still lives in the house he grew up in on the farm that has been in his family for generations that now houses one of America’s most revered breweries.

Located on a dirt road in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, Hill Farmstead beat out more than 34,000 breweries to win the title of best brewery in the world for the fifth year in a row according to RateBeer.com

This place truly is in the middle of nowhere, we traveled several very quiet dirt roads before we were awed by the sight of two jam packed parking lots and cars lining the roads on either side.

Fortunately there were two large buildings and an enormous expanse of lawn to easily accommodate the crowd of people. (As you can see by the digital counter above 987 people had already visited that day and it was only one in the afternoon!)

Though they haven't yet put food on their menu, every week they invite different food trucks to provide some desired sustenance. On this day we were treated to reasonably priced, delicious tacos, all of the super fresh ingredients provided by locally owned farms.

And now to answer the question burning in everyone's mind...

The beer was marvelous!! You could truly taste the love and work that went into it.

...however, living in an area where fine craft breweries have been popping up like anthills, I can't honestly say that I myself would vote it the best in the world at this point. (That's the trouble with being number one, there is only one direction you can go from there.)

But if you are a lover of craft beers and you find yourself in Vermont? It is certainly worth the trip!

It’s kinda cool that there’s still generational homes around, that seems to be a thing that isn’t done much these days (even as it’s clumsily and unwillingly making a comeback here as real estate sucks at the moment 🤣).

It's getting rare here too, my area in upstate NY used to be big for that, now there's only maybe two farms that were passed down and a few houses that have been passed down. It seems that Vermont is still holding onto those old ways.
