Have The Steem Blockchain's Problems Finally Been Fixed? Check Out #NewSteem!

Steem is several years old now, it's a blockchain based social networking eco-system that pays you to post and comment - plus has a plethora of aother benefits. Despite it's greatness, it has also had it's fair share of problems, but a recent update to the network appears to have made a big shift towards balance, fairness and could be just what the world has needed to be added to Steem. The Steem community now has a way to combat vote selling via free downvotes and also pays much more rewards to curators, meaning that the best posts (subjectively) now stand a much better chance of gaining exposure organically due to manual, community driven upvoting.

In this video I take you on a quick journey through some of the changes and my thoughts on the present state of Steem. If you've never used Steem you can get a great intro here and if you used Steem in the past then maybe these changes will motivate you to drop by and have another play. :)

Wishing you well,
Ura Soul

Hi @ura-soul,

I completely agree that manual, community driven upvoting will help STEEM flourish. I have this list of good places to find undervalued posts and good programs and posts where you can spread your vote so it will help the smallest blogs grow. I am dropping this list when a see posts like yours so that people who were not curating before the fork can have some starting points. I hope it is helpful, and thank you for any votes you cast in any of these places.

Undervalued posts:

If you do not want to join trails or auto vote, trawl through these efforts.

  • @pifc weekly Pay it Forward contests <<< Finds undervalued posts by nominations. Needs sponsors and votes.
  • @trufflepig <<< Finds 25 undervalued posts daily by an AI algorithm. Has a trail that is now growing as bigger STEEMers join in.
  • @qurator daily posts, weekly contests, and author spotlights <<< A large group of daily bloggers. Easy to find great posts.
  • @c-cubed daily posts <<< manually curated top undervalued posts of the day. Huge effort by the admins on many fronts
  • @miti.blog <<< Daily Curation Project for Undervalued Deserving Content. This guy seems to be going it alone and he is finding great posts.

Helping newcomers

  • @steevc and his @tenkminnows project <<< Helping redfish obtain over 500 SP.
  • @heyhaveyamet posts <<< Finds and supports promising noobs with good intro posts.
  • @steemterminal <<< Same people as above helping redfish after the intro time is complete.
  • @abh12345 - Curation and Engagement League Participants <<< People who know how to curate

Niche Groups

  • @freewritehouse and @mariannewest <<< helping new authors learn to blog
  • @steemitmamas <<< Moms on STEEM #womenincrypto is a “thing. Most crypto projects have 10% women. STEEM has 25%. Manual curation and lots of support given to newcomers. All the other wonen’s groups I know of have failed.
  • @tasteem contests <<< International restaurant reviews of excellent quality – tough guidelines and lot of support to help people when they start.
  • @homesteaderscoop <<< A community marketplace of ethical, handmade and sustainable products available for STEEM, SBD (and USD): https://homesteaderscoop.com
  • @canna-curate <<< All about weed and the people who grow, smoke, cook, eat, make clothes and supplies.
  • @naturalmedicine <<< All about natural ways to stay healthy and heal yourself if not.

Photography

Travel and locations

  • @travelfeed <<< Awesome dApp and team for travel related posts. Great execution so far, HUGE Potential.
  • @socalsteemit <<< Southern California posts on the STEEM blockchain. Excellent curation and good to promote on other social media for star quality.
  • @teammalaysia <<< Biggest country group on the STEEM blockchain. Has a trail and many using the tag.

Promising dApps easy for new STEEMers to start with

  • dPoll.io <<< People love to poll on Twitter. They should be doing it on STEEM instead. This dApp has a trail you can join.
  • dLike.io <<< People love to share links on fb. They should be doing it on STEEM instead. I am not too sure how to support this place, but they are trying hard and have quality control in place. Their token is doing well.

Support @steembasicincome with your upvotes

Many small accounts get their best upvote from SBI. Please take a look at this post from my other blog to see how you can help this program grow. It is a very simple set up and you will help hundreds of small accounts.

The list above is mine and based on my interests. I do not follow topics such as crypto, games, sports or video. All of them and more have similar programs for curation, but I do not follow them enough to know what they have going on.

I'm not sure if the economy is completely fixed, but it is obvious that behavior changed for the better and most people realized that we were the actual reason why the economy was broken for a long time now. I'm feeling super bullish at the moment. Each day we are a step closer to the internet utopia.

I actually watched this video earlier whilst I was having dinner earlier so I guess you can count yourself fortunate that we were on a date, talking about steem 🤣

Anyway, love the enthusiasm and the way you explain everything. You do have a great narrators voice, very calming. Hard to imagine a dnb rave nutta in there haha!

In fact, watching your video and reading a few other positive articles about steem since the changes prompted me to load up another 3k steem and push myself over the 10k SP range. Going to enjoy the curation train for a bit 🙂

haha.. i feel like i missed a dessert somewhere along the line ;)
thanks for the kind words - well, dnb kind of helped me to break myself and also fix myself and part of all of that involved clearing up my mind that helps me to communicate more clearly.. the challenge now is to do that in music too. :)
i'm glad to hear you are confident in the future here.. i look forward to the growth I was expecting 2 years ago ;)

Haha, don't worry, you're sweet enough already #nohomo

I know how you feel with DnB, it had and has the same effect on me too! The challenge I have now is to get everything sounding as clean as the pros in Hospital and Liquicitiy...

I'm pretty confident after seeing the changes following HF21 to the community behaviour and the main development team in steemit are communicating regularly which makes a huge difference in confidence. For me personally anyway. I've been on a few crypto music sites and they fade away, turn in to hobbies or just don't stick to what they said they would do and never communicate.

I've not seen the prices this low since I've been on and thought, now was the time to buy in at around 13p per STEEM. It could go lower still but I'm just loading up when I get some spare cash from the new job (once I've factored in other expenses of course haha). Here's to bright future!

lol :)
I have been subscribed to liquicity in youtube but never seen them come up in my sub list.. I just hit the notification bell because I have hardly ever heard them at all. Just listening to some bits now - yeah, very nice - thanks for the tip. Actually, I prefer what I'm hearing there to Hospital's vibe at the moment.
There was a busker in Norwich today singing old style reggae - like 'police and thieves' really well, I thought about trying to get him to record some vocals, but I don't have time at the moment. Once I get a couple of current projects finished I'm going full on with the tracks I've started .. then I'll look at some new ones more on the liquid vibe and maybe that reggae remix.

Yes, the communication is important and when it's missing it leaves the imagination open to think that there's nothing going on. I can feel that Steem is going to stay the course because it's elements are solid - it's general enough to be used in a large number of ways and so that means there are many people interested in helping grow it for many different reasons.

I'm glad you got in low, yeah - definitely a good time to buy. Hard to say what's going to happen, but there's a good chance we'll see Steem at $1 again soon.

Yea I agree with you on Liquicity side of things, actually think they have gone down the line that Hospital used to be before going in to a very "speed pop" sound rather than liquid dnb. A liquicity night out in London 2 years ago was the last big DnB thing I did and would like to do more in 2020 for sure as it's looking like a bit of a "free" year. If steem's price moves upwards in that time then could well use some of the earnings to pay for a night out, who knows :)

I'm doing a bit of "life reorganisation" as well and that includes cutting down a bit on posting. Trying to do a daily upload is pretty intense and now I've bought up on STEEM, the curation rewards I'll be getting will mitigate the "lost steem" from author rewards now. I'll probably do one post on music and one on travel each week to try and get better quality going but it's more the time I'll have back which will help in many ways!

I agree with the assessment on STEEM too - it's also helped by the fact it's open source so anyone can build any dapp they want to integrate to the chain which makes it multi purpose really. But the only place I see so far that's trying to tackle onboarding and making it all simple to use is travelfeed. Steempress seems to be doing a good job too so we'll see how those developments go as well.

$1 STEEM would be very tasty! Don't think I've seen it get to that in the 18 months I've been here haha

I don't believe in this #newsteem people are trying to market. Some of the same protocols were already in play before. It's the same STEEM, just a different rule set and more weekend warriors ready to flag you in ignorance.

I understand things to be new in terms of the user experience without so many bots - though 'new' isn't really the best word for it, granted. I haven't had any meaningful downvote issues yet, who has been downvoting you?
