There is a thin veneer of civilization papered over American society. People will be shocked at their vulnerability to armed gangs and thugs very soon. Thankfully, Americans are armed, and can handle their business better than most when SHTF. This is much less true in the cities, and there's going to be insanity in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, etc...
I live in a village, and I'm getting out. No one is going to come to where I go to loot.
Do make necessary preparations for your security Ed. Even Kiwis might go mad soon.

Already making prep as I write this. Cogs have been in motion on that front, for a while now. Got a few things I have to fix though. But yeah, time to "go bush very soon", as the kiwi saying is. I know some pretty remote places - but still reliant on some things. Making plans though. Your right about looting - that is no doubt something that is going to be the most chaotic thing ever seen now - it will get unreal pretty fast.
Today I mounted a solar panel on my truck again, and made some other prep also. If I properly prepare I might be able to maintain internet access, at least a daily check in. I'm hoping to be able to charge cordless power tools from time to time from my truck also. Dunno if I can manage that, but it's worth a shot, eh?
