Pope: Sorry I lost patience with hand-shaker who yanked me 😆

Pope Francis has apologized for hitting the hand of a well-wisher who grabbed him and
yanked him toward her. In his new year's wishes to the public in St. Peter's Square on
Wednesday, Francis confessed to losing his patience with the woman while he was strolling in the square Tuesday night to admire the Vatican's Nativity scene. Cameras captured the scene when the woman, from behind a barrier, reached out and grabbed the pope's hand, pulling him violently toward her. Francis reacted sharply, exclaimed something and then slapped her hand so she would let him go. Frowning in anger, he turned and strode away.

I'm not surprised the pope is tetchy. He has to hang around religious people all the time. That would drive me mad. He's really the ultimate celebrity with about a billion 'followers'.

Truth is, I definitely think the Pope is human and prone to mistake but he's the head of the Roman Catholic Papacy worldwide and he needs to show More patience, you're a public figure and you're meant to see such on a daily basis

I twitted several comments about this incident.
Innitially, in response to those who talked about it as the pope dropping the mask, I wondered how many more masks does he have to drop in order for peole to seem him for what he is, a human who is more imperfect than his sheep, given his alleged proximity to god.

To those who defended him on the grounds that he was a man, and an old one at that, I wrote that the problem was the aura of sanctity the institution insists on attributing to him, that makes him special, more powerful to resist human temptations, more in control, more loving, etc; does not it?
There were some people who compared Francis I to previous, allegedly more loving and spiritual popes; to that I said, some actors are better than others and they even get awards.
Those who said he just had a lapse, lost his temper, made me think of how tolerant he has been with totalitarian leaders who actually attack the church he represents, and visit him, and kiss or shake his hand and go back to their countries to continue screwing people, but blessed by "you holiness"
There were some people, especially women, who wanted to question his attitude as just sexist, a case of gender violence. To them I said that it would be miopic to oversimplify it that way. It goes beyond gender violence. The pope is a complex and imperfect figure. The very possition of the pope has been occupied by all kinds of problematic men, from underage kids to laymen, passing through rapists, murderers and madmen. It would be a naive mistake to continue seeing them as holy, especial, virtuous or representatives of any high values.
