Sleep of the dead

The monolithic-sized photo copier buzzes away from somewhere outside my door and the shuffle of feet hurrying back and forth drum a regular beat upon the polished concrete floors as people hurry to-and-fro about their tasks. A door closes, just a little too swiftly, and the sound reverberates through the glass wall, the horizontal blind tapping rhythmically on the glass a few times with the rush of air from the slammed door. Someone laughs, the water-cooler glugs, a compendium of paperwork is dropped by accident and my own computer whirrs away wondering why it's not being used...All of which goes unnoticed by me as I lay back in my office chair, tongue lolling out of my open mouth, fast asleep and oblivious to the world around me at 3:30pm on a Friday afternoon in the office.

I've had a busy week so far and as today is Friday it all comes to an end, for a couple of days at least. It's almost 4pm and I'll be heading home shortly.I went back to work for the first day of my working year on Monday and after two weeks off I, rather predictably, came back to a lot of catching up to do.

I kind of expected it to be honest, despite being super-organised at work and setting things up late last year, and my first week lived up to expectations. I've answered countless emails, had several meetings within the office and about the same number externally, prepared contracts for and signed up three new clients. I've had a visit to the physiotherapist, my surgeon for a check up, had one of my cars serviced, written about nine or ten posts and made around 400 replies on steem...I completed stage two of my Lego build, went for a walk each night, cooked dinner three times, played with my cats, cuddled with Faith and managed to find a little sleep here and there. So, yeah...A pretty busy week.

I've been sitting here sipping my fourth coffee of the day trying to stay awake at my desk. I know, I know...It's not very good of me right? I should be setting an example. I'm just being honest though; Keeping my eyes open is a struggle.

Tonight I think I'll have an early night after having a bite to eat that (hopefully) Faith prepares because I'm feeling lazy. I have a few things planned for the weekend, some shooting mainly, a little Lego and more wife-cuddling so I think sleeping the sleep of the dead tonight will be the way to go so I'm ready to deploy for the weekend. You can see my cat Cleo doing a pretty good version of the sleep of the dead thing in this image and I'll be doing my hardest to replicate it myself...Probably around 9pm. 8pm? We'll see.
