Hibernation
Bears hibernate in the winter...We all know that. But did you know cars do it too?
A couple of my brother's cars do anyway. You can see them here, on rollers to keep the tyres off the concrete. Here they wait out the winter, snuggled in their warm and cosy warehouse, waiting for the Spring and return of driving weather.
The closest one is a 1967 Dodge Coronet and the other, only partially imaged, is a 1957 Plymouth Fury. The coronet is usually a driver but the Plymouth doesn't go out too much - it's an extremely unique vehicle, heavily modified and built from scratch from the ground up. It's an award winning custom car built as a showcase of my brother's custom car business.
When I was in Finland last year I took a ride in the Coronet which sounds the business and goes hard...athletes nothing like the sound of a big V8 right? The Fury? Well, I wasn't ride-worthy so I only got to admire it.
They're hibernating now though, for the Finnish winter, and won't emerge until the snow is gone and conditions are suitable for cruisin.
Seeing this image today made me glad I don't live in an area in which the weather inhibits what people do so severely. Yes, there's things we do or don't do depending on the season here in Australia but to not be able to drive a much-loved car for months? It must suck and I know my brother is a bit sad; the photos came through with the message, "saddest day of the year." I get it too, I'd be sad as well.
I guess we all get used to, or deal with, the varying factors that influence our lives - We adapt and amend our behaviour accordingly, seek other interests and outcomes and adjust expectations in turn; Just like my brother has to do each year with his cars. I'm glad I don't need to hibernate my hobbies though.
Do you have hobbies or interests that have to cease due to weather or some other factor out of control?
Design and create your ideal life don't live it by default 🇦🇺

Yeah, fishing...
Is it because there's no fish? I know in Finland they drill holes in the ice out on the lakes and fish...Wasn't sure if you were able to do something like that or do the fish hibernate? 😃
The fish goes away to deeper waters. Usually on the course of the Danube. Ice fishing is not an option here. You kind of have some chances to still catch some perch but they're weak. My fishing gear in winter hibernates in the garage unfortunately. Hence my hobby hibernates.
Ah, yes that makes sense. I'm sorry for my ignorance...Things are different here in Australia and so I'm unfamiliar with other parts of the world.
I'm unfamiliar with Australia...:) We can't know everything.
Yep bush walking is not so good when it's pouring rain. Very nice cars he has👍
I don't mind being in the bush or forest in the rain...As long as I have a change of clothes and somewhere to change...I get it though.
Yes, he has some nice ones...Builds custom cars. Also owns distribution rights in EU for a tool company so has all the bits and pieces as well.
I don't mind walking in rain just not when it's pouring down in Tas as it usually gets really cold as well. Did not mind the pouring rain when walking in Queensland.
Yes, good point. Rain forest hikes in FNQ are cool.
Your brother has a nice taste in cars, good ol' fashioned American muscle.
Yes, so do I...I just don't have the funds to get them. He has some nice cars, these are just two. He's worked hard for it though.
Thanks for commenting.
Same here, so let's keep working hard to get our dream cars :-)
And thank you for the great content!
Yeah, hard work is the only way, no one's going to hand it to us I guess.

We hibernate our race cars. The racing season ends in October and begins in March. We just drain them of coolant, disconnect the battery and cover them up.
Yep, I knew this happened, but wasn't certain if anyone here had race cars. What do you have and where do you race?
Thanks for responding too, I greatly appreciate the engagement.
We do autograss in the UK, I was racing a Volvo t5 powered Nissan micra. I have had that car for 3 seasons, now I’m building a lancia fulvia coupe with the same engine, although a slightly newer version.
My favourite car we built was my fathers mini pickup. That’s also Volvo t5 powered, but it’s mid engined, and has approximately 500bhp/tonne
That's cool!
I raced go-karts, never cars but I'd like to give this a go! Looks like a lot of fun. I'm giving you a follow...Want to see how the build-up goes.
P.s. That mini-truck is sweet! 100% homebuilt!
I guess my hobbies are all indoors now days like being online doing anything. But I do have interests that get interrupted during the winter time like watching girls with less clothes on :-)
By the way, I really like the cars, still miss the '73 Ford Ranchero 500 I had.
Best hobby ever!😉😂
Holy smokes sir galenkp, beautiful! Are those tarazkp's? I think it will just help him appreciate the spring and summer more.
Nope, not his...My eldest brother's cars.
