Any given Saturday - More fabric for the tapestry of life

avatar

The day started grey and rainy and for lack of any other option I accepted it for what it was, deciding life was too short to place on hold. I deployed, as I would on any given Saturday, with enthusiasm for life, to live my best version of it, and to make the most of the time I have left. I don't know how long that is to be honest, I could check-out at any time, and so living now seems a pretty good option.

The rain drizzled down leaving everything glistening through the glass of the café at which I ate breakfast. Vehicles kicked up spray and people's wet shoes began to form a puddle on the floor in front of the cash register where I ordered my meal. My safety-conscious-mind thought about the insurance liability and risk of a wet floor in a public place; The Saturday-in-me didn't really care. It was wet out side so it was bound to happen.

I ate, and wrote the last post you see on my feed, contemplating what I may do with the day. I decided a walk would be good and so after a lengthy chat with the café owner about investment, the residential and commercial property market and her thoughts on the business environment I stepped out into the rain lovely blue-skied day! Say what?

Thats right...The grey and gloomy day had given way to a cool but partially sunny day, a light breeze and some incredibly fresh air. I love it when a plan comes together - Not that I planned this of course.

Off I went around the lake with the other people, probably equally surprised as myself by the weather, or maybe they saw the weather forecast and realised it was going to start grey then turn into a nice day. Hmm, I must have missed that memo.

I whipped out my phone to grab some photos...No, it didn't have anything to do with the two hot girls wearing super-tight activewear pants and crop tops walking along ahead of me...OK, maybe a little. [Just joking, I'm not a creep!]

I walked around the lake and onto the less-developed creek area happily snapping away and enjoying the two girls ahead of me views and sunshine together with the cool temperature; I'm not a huge fan of really hot weather and today, at 19°C was pretty nice with the sun on me. [Unfortunately all that stopping for photos meant the girls had powered away into the distance - Damn them.]

I grabbed a few snaps here and there, most didn't work out because I'm a really bad photographer but Samsung S9 came to the rescue and I managed to get a few that looked ok.

I didn't have any real plan so just ended up taking shots of random things as I walked which you can see here. This area is a man-made lake built upon natural wetlands. The lake actually has a function which is to help filter the water flowing down out of the hills prior to it heading out into the ocean. The wetlands would have performed that same task I guess, but someone thought it would be good to build a big housing development here and now 12,000 people live around the lake and creek area.

There's loads of birdlife around here, plus lizards snakes, possums and other creatures also, like skin-tight-pants-wearing-walkers. It's a popular place for locals and a nice place to walk and relax.

Of course, there's a town centre as well which is reasonably busy, but it's the more natural parts I like the best. The lake is used for kayaking, a little rowing, fishing and sailboats; Not full sized ones though, model sailboats. You can see one pictured below prior to launching.

Mostly the sailboats are operated by older people who hold races up and down the lake which is very cool - Maybe in 70 years I'll join them. I stopped and spoke to one of them some time back, a retired [high-ranking] Army officer, and spent a couple hours hanging out with him talking about life, war, politics, and sailboats which I really valued. He was a very intelligent bloke and I got a lot of value from the time. I say hi now and then if I see him, but today he wasn't there.

I also came across a massive solar farm situated in the area as part of the university. It's pretty cool. I don't know how many panels they have but there's row after row of them and I'd say there are several thousand at least. I wish it was my solar array! You can see one of the rows above, it's about 400 metres long.

This shaded walkway took me back to where I'd parked my car and was the last photo I took, not counting the photo that I took whilst putting the phone back in my pocket. I haven't shown that photographic genius here for obvious reasons.

I'm pleased the way the day turned out and now, late evening Saturday night, I'm feeling pretty good about my walk and how I spent Saturday. I caught up with a mate later in the afternoon and then Faith and I went to TGI Fridays for a meal [I know right? It's SATURDAY and we went to TGI Fridays! That's crazy talk!] 😃

I hope y'all made use of your day and added another awesome day to the tapestry of your lives. For me, it looked like todays' fabric of my life was going to be grey and gloomy but it turned out bright, vibrant and very enjoyable.

Off topic: is there any place in Australia where you don't have over 40°C for months?

Yep, Tasmania. The small island off the south coast. It's generally cooler there.

Sounds like a beautiful day. Just drifting. That army guy sounds like he would have some great stories. Amazing the people you meet. Love that photo looking up tree into the light. I have an A5.. far inferior.
