Can you Dance?
The problem with me doing a type of figurine sometimes is that, I get stuck doing that for a long time. In an attempt to "redeem" myself for the botched lip job I did on my other doll, I made this.
Creating is a spontaneous process for me and, I did not really plan on making this at all. I just want to make another doll because it makes me happy to do that.
As always when I am starting, I chose and planned my color palette.
I personally preferred to have a wider range of skin color-not just the "flesh" or fair type because I wanted to get this message over there: You are beautiful no matter what the color of your skin.
I would have preferred to have a standing sculpture but I do not have the materials to support it so, here she is sitting down. I started by making the feet.
The purpose of me doing this is because the shoes is different from my previous doll. It's a ballerina! It even surprised me! hahahahaha
Anyway,I will be skipping a few things because I have basically showed them in the previous post. But, let me just show you guys how I made the ballerina shoes.
Done. As an additional detail,I added some black clay at the bottom to make it into a more "functional" footwear. I know I am being weird but, it does not hurt to add those details.
One of the reasons why I love scrap clay is that, I can use them as a "foundation" on my next projects. here is a green one-this is part of those lower than the ocean bottom quality clay.
I imagined my dancer to have fluffy multilayer skirt.
Here I am showing you how to make skirts.
Insert another wire reinforcement. As I have been saying before, I do not have any other sculpture wire so, I am improvising. It is often "frowned" upon to insert wire reinforcements because, it does not really "strengthen" the scuplture. But this is not a commercial figurine and, its very tiny.
I just inserted a small piece of clay to serve as the base for the upper torso.
Since the head is bigger than the rest of the body, I started to separately make the detail without attaching to the body.
A few things one needed to keep in mind when making a figurine is that, even if its a chibi and detail is not really of utmost concern, attaching 2 clumps of clay for the ears is still important- don't make your sculpture weirder than you originally intended to.
Braid the clay to give a more realistic hair detail.
Repeat until you have a decent bun.
Attach to the head. I am not going to show you how to make/ attach the arms and hands because, its basically the same from the previous doll.
The great thing about making figurines is that, you get to tell a story. I had her told her head because I am imagining her attempting to relax after her number but the music was turned out so loud.
Here it is from all angles:
There are still a few things I wanted to add on my doll but basically, its done! I am so happy with the way it turned out, I think I want to name her. Any name suggestions?
ooh, she is so incredibly cute - you are really improving I have to say 😀
thank you.
