The noise inside the kitchen

She was sipping her coffee when she heard the sound. It seemed to come from the kitchen. She wondered what it could be but was afraid to go alone and check. It was nearing dusk and the house was kind of isolated. The farmhouses in the neighborhood were not at a comfortable distance.

She wished she had lived on in the city where it was noisy but at least the neighbors were only a wall away. It was true that the neighbors were always poking their heads and nose and demanding this and that but it was also a relief knowing that help was always at hand.

Mustering her courage, she went near the kitchen door and peeped. She did not know whether to laugh out loud or cry. There he was. Burly, the goat, chewing her apron. He looked at her as if asking her whether there was nothing better to eat.
