Fear of change is human nature. We are creatures of habit and once we get used to something, we do not want to let it go. His (justinsuntron's) stake could have effectively rearranged the entire witness rankings with his votes.

Actually it could entirely replace all the witnesses down to 30 and effectively control the blockchain unilaterally. Read what I wrote there if you're interested in seeing the perspective from someone who was on the other side of the fence at first, and what I saw to convince me that while it wasn't a course of action I particularly liked, it was something necessary.

I will read it and fully understand it was for the safety of the chain itself, I'm just not so sure it was the only option.
