My Cooking Adventure: Traditional Moon Cake

Today is public holiday so I decided to baked a Moon Cake. It's a Chinese cake that traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is usually shared between family and friends during a family gathering.

I learn how to make this cake few years back. Its a simple recipe that everyone can do. In order to make a moon cake, you have to measure the ingredients precisely otherwise the texture of your moon cake will be uneven.

Here my simple Moon cake recipe.

Ingredients for Mooncake Pastry
  1. Moon cake syrup 250g
  2. Peanut oil 80g
  3. Cake flour Moon Cake 400g
  4. Alkaline powder 5g

Mooncake Filling

  1. Black bean paste

Others
1 - 2 mooncake mould (any mooncake mould of your choice)

Method:
  1. For filing -cut and roll into balls bean paste in about 40g each.

  2. Mixed together ingredients to form a dough.

  3. Rest for a while.

  4. Then, cut and roll the dough into balls in about 40g each.

  5. Gently press the dough ball with you palm and wrap it arround the bean ball paste.

  6. Place the stuffed round mooncake into the mould. Turn it UPRIGHT on the surface.

  7. Then press the plunger down until you feel resistance.

  8. Egg wash them before baking (yolk only).

  9. Bake for 15 - 18 minutes at 180c or until brown.
