HOW TO MAKE THE MOST POPULAR FOOD IN NIGERIA; WHITE RICE AND STEW!
Hello my steemit family, welcome to my blog. Today ill be explaining how to make the White rice and stew. This food is popular in Nigeria because its eating by almost all the tribes in Nigeria but its common among the Yorubas which i belong to.
One wonderful fact about this food is that you can make it wherever country you are. The ingredients are easily available in markets. The process of preparation is also easy. You can decide to give it a trial because the food is also very tasty.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR THE STEW
- Tomatoes
- Peper of choice
- Onions
- Oil of choice (I use Vegetable oil)
- Seasonings
- Salt
- Meat of choice or/and Fish
- Spices (optional)
PROCESS OF MAKING THE STEW!
- Wash and rinse the fish and meat with clean water. You can decide to use Fish alone or Meat alone or both depending on what you want.
- Wash, rinse and blend the tomatoes, pepper of choice and onions together. The name of the pepper I use is “Ata Rodo” in my language but its otherwise known as “Scotch Bonnet Peppers”.
- If you'll be using meat for the stew. Boil the meat and add seasoning of choice. For the meat I uploaded above i use 4 cubes of maggi, salt to taste, curry and thyme( optional), little onions with water. I cant give you specific time on when it'll be done, just note you're to boil till the meat is soft. You can check this by having a little bit.
*Add some Vegetable oil on the pot, put it on the gas. The heat should be on medium temperature. When its a bit hot, pour the blended result inside gently and let it fry.
- When its a bit fried, add seasoning and salt to taste. If you'lll be adding meat, add the boiled meat with its broth at the stage so it'll cook with the stew.
- When the stew is well cooked but be careful not to let it burn, then you'll add the fish to it and boil it for like 5mins. After this, the stew is ready for consumption.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR WHITE RICE.
- Raw rice
- Salt
PROCESS OF MAKING THE RICE
- Wash, rinse and boil the rice with average water.
- After like 10 mins when its boiling but not yet soft for consumption, sieve the starchy water out, rinse with clean water and add new water to the rice. The water should not be too much or too small depending on how soft you want your rice to be. Add salt to taste and then boil till the water is all dried and you have your white rice.
- For serving, you'll dish the rice and put the stew on the rice. I'm sorry I couldn't capture the image of its presentation. I was in a hurry to go out after cooking that day.
- The rice is called "White rice" because of its color and in Nigeria we cook rice in diverse ways. We have jollof rice, fried rice, coconut rice, concoction rice etc
- Thank you for visiting my blog and thank you for reading.
