Wine and seafood at Bocanariz in Santiago, Chile.
One of the perks of traveling for work is that sometimes, if you are not destroyed, you can enjoy a nice local dinner, and get to know a little more about the culture of the place you are visiting.
I chose this place for this contest because seafood in Santiago, Chile, is a must and a specialty. Chile is a wine country, where some of the best and most unique grapes are harvested, resulting in exceptional wines that you can only find there.
This place is called Bocanariz, which translates as mouthnose. I think they chose this name because those are the parts of the body that experience the wine.
I chose a wine-pairing menu; here’s a picture of the menu.
The experience started with a plate of seafood appetizers paired with a set of tree different white wines. The plate included oysters with apple foam, fish sticks with tamarind sauce and a crab tart.
The wines were one Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and a Chardonnay.
The main course was a Tortellini filled with Zapallo (It is something in between a sweet potato and a pumpkin. This was paired with a Pinot Noire.
The big end was a Manjar dessert. Manjar is the Chilean of dulce de leche. It was presented in different ways, but everything tasted like Manjar.
