Hello, foodies!
Have you ever been to Indonesia? If the answer is yes, maybe you have ever tried one of the special dish here, gado-gado. Gado-gado contained many kind of boiled and cut vegetables, served with the authentic peanut sauce. The peanut sauce usually has savory and a bit sweet flavour.

Sometimes, we craved for this gado-gado, the delicious gado-gado usually sold by the seller on the street. And, last thursday, we met the famous gado-gado on the street.

The food stall was located on Nangka Street, South Jakarta. A small street which was not far from RSUD Kebayoran Baru (a government hospital) and also ITC fatmawati, a shopping center in South Jakarta.
When we came there at 10.30, the food seller was preparing some buyers gado-gado orders.

Look how many he could make in his ulekan (a big plate to make the gado-gado peanut paste).

What he did, made the peanut paste then cut lontong (rice cake) and put vegetables on it. The rice cakes here were special cause the seller made these by himself, the size were bigger than it usual size and also tasted pulen, he said.

Here were the steps how:
The seller first made the peanut paste.

Then he cut the lontong then he put other cut vegetables there (spinach, cayote, potato, bitter melon, corn, beansprout, long bean, cabbage) and also cut the cucumber there.

And last thing, he wrapped it and also served it with the fried chips.

Although he had some chairs around the food stall, but beause it was really hot that day, so we took the gado-gado away than eating there on the street. The price of the gado-gado with a boiled egg was 18,000 IDR and without the egg was 15,000 IDR. Mine was with egg, but mom wasn't so we paid 33,000 IDR or around 2.36 USD altogether. But it was fair, cause the portion for each gado-gado was large.

We took the gado-gado and ate it in a restaurant at ITC Fatmawati, by buying beverage there.

Here how the gado-gado looked like

Guess the taste?
The vegetables were so fresh, and all well boiled. The lontong, like the seller said, was really pulen, delicious and easy to swallow. The peanut paste was great too, the seller gave it plenty to the vegetables, the flavor was savory and sweet.

I invite you to try this gado-gado when you come to Jakarta, Indonesia
