More blooming mesembs
I promised to bombard you with mesemb flowers as they happen and so here's another. I always thought that these were some kind of Titanopsis but it turns out that they are Aloinopsis, I think lodewykii. These flowers have been playing hide-and seek with me for a few days now, I couldn't catch them open because I was expecting them to behave like the Titanopsis flowers, which only open in direct sunlight. I kept checking on them in the morning, and around midday because that is when the area they grow in gets direct sunlight
I got home from work at 3 pm this afternoon and finally got to see them open. Opening later in the day is typical for Aloinopsis and these opened for about 2 hours and then closed again. Flowers like these are probably pollinated by solitary bees, which are active later in the afternoon.
A view of the lumpy, bumpy leaves. Now that I know that this is Aloinopsis, I need to get it into a deeper pot because this genus makes a large underground root and getting it into a bigger pot will encourage the roots to develop. Some people grow these like bonsai, with the rootstock exposed but I find that this makes them delicate and more difficult to keep so I am happier to leave it underground.
Interesting flowers. It seems that small pebbles that bloom are poured into the container. Very original.
This family of plants are among my favourites because of their looks
I have never seen such. Fancy :-)
There are many beautiful and strange-looking things that grow in my country but wouldn't survive in yours because they are desert plants
I agree, heather also does not want to bloom in the desert :-))
Yeah, each to his own and that's the beauty of social media: we get to see other people's worlds
A virtual journey through realities - lol
An attractive plant all around...
For sure
Super!
Congratulations!
I really like these plants.
And I again got a second Titanopsis !!! :-)))
Congratulations! I need more Titanopsis in my life as well ;)
Fine!
You have a goal now :-)))))
