Ah... To Be A Child Again!

I thought I would share some childhood memories. Yeah, they started me off young, and I got all keyed up about it. Well folks, with a music conservatory educated piano teacher as a mother and Dad gigging out in the night clubs of Chicago, I sure wasn't going to end up a car mechanic.

Mom still has that old black Janssen spinet piano she bough in the 1950's. She had worked for several music stores, including Goodwins of Waterloo and Carl Fisher of Chicago. And I still have that old xylophone that Dad gave me before Christmas on my birthday. Box included, although the mallets are gone.

But I've outgrown those clothes!

Growing In Life's Journey

Yep, folks, that's my beginnings. Today, I play over 600 songs from memory. I play for Sunday church, gig out for weddings, clubs, retirement homes, corporate venues and singing telegrams. I do easy listening, jazz, Broadway, Sinattra, Beatles, Hymns, Patriotic and the rest of the American song book. It is a lot of fun! I even use an 'Enjoy With Troy' as a catch phrase power line for marketing.

Hey if 'Coke is it' and Nike is 'Just do it.' Well, why not Enjoy with Troy!

Learning

Never did become that concert pianist like mom... or the guitar pickin player like like Dad. I probably would have made more money as a grease monkey mechanic. But as Dad once said when he was at the crossroads of two careers back in the early 60's.

I thought long and hard about it, son. I decided I would rather be good as a guitarist than be mediocre as an accountant.

He ended up using his business background in his music career anyway. His words speak to me today, long after he left this world.

And Embracing The Moral

The take away is to do what you love. Think it through and pray about it, but go after your dreams and enjoy the journey. Get keyed up about it! But most of all... bring happiness to others in all you do. And know the love you spread will bring you through.

I still bang on the piano... It is just a sweeter sound today.
