In The Dreaming: Chapter Sixty "A Gentleman Never Tells" (Fantasy Y/A Novel)

-I wrote the following novel nearly two decades ago. In the years between then and now I've honed my craft, and my perception of this world; my thoughts and ideas; have changed dramatically. However, I still enjoy the premise and have decided to do an overhaul of revisions and rewrites, though likely not until sometime next year. (Though I'm sure I'll do a little as I post chapters)

For now I hope you will enjoy a glimpse into my book writing beginnings...

Chapter Sixty

The next day was chaos. Mostly everyone had slept in and there were bodies crashed all over the apartment including on the floors. Collin made his way around them and ran smack into Jake who was coming out of the kitchen with a cup of coffee.

“Shit that's hot!" He exclaimed as he was splashed by the burning liquid. "Is there any more?”

“I just made a pot, no one else has touched it.” He was looking at Collin strangely.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“Do you want to ask me something?”

“No, it’s none of my business.”

Collin nodded and poured himself a cup. Ben came in behind him followed by Brent and Gerald.

“You have a good night, bro?” Ben asked in mid-yawn/stretch.

“A great night.”

“I bet,” he said and poked him in the ribs.

Brent looked at him expectantly.

“Are you waiting for something?”

“Come on Col, spill it, details!”

Gerald put his hand up in protest. “Wait for me to leave the room please.”

“A gentleman never tells.”

“That's b.s. man, you're one lucky s.o.b., you know that?”

Collin nodded smugly and headed outside to sit on the stoop. Ben was already out there smoking a cigarette. He offered one to Collin.

“I don’t smoke.”

“Never too young to start,” he grinned putting them back in his pocket.

Kara and Kendra went straight for the bathroom and prettied themselves up before joining the land of the living.

“So, did you sleep with that kid?” Kendra asked, applying her lipstick.

“Sleep? A little,” she laughed.

“Any good?”

“Oh yeah. Too bad we’re leaving next week, I’d like to see more of him.”

“We’ll be back for the holidays, maybe he’ll come up here for New Year’s Eve.”

“Definitely, he better.”

They left the bathroom and located the guys on the porch. Kara sat down beside Collin and smiled mischievously.

“Morning beautiful,” he said and draped his arm around her shoulder.

“I’m sorry we’re leaving in a week, but Kendra said we’d be back for the holidays. Do you think you’ll be around here for New Year’s?”

Collin looked at Ben.

“Most definitely,” Ben said, “You have to come, I’m having a blowout.”

Collin nodded, “Sounds like a plan.”

Jake poked his head out the door, “Are you guys about ready to go?”

“Yeah, mine and Brent’s things are in the car.”

“You sure you can’t stay another night?” Kara pouted.

“I would, but I don’t think my room mates would forgive me.”

“Okay, just promise I’ll see you for New Year’s.”

“I promise,” he leaned in and kissed her, then stood up. She grabbed his hand and followed him to the car kissing him again.

“Goodbye gorgeous,” she said, “see you in a few weeks.”

Collin slept most of the ride back. He mostly wanted to avoid questions and darting looks. He was due at John and Katherine’s shortly after he got there so he grabbed another outfit and got out the door as fast as possible.
