Silver miniatures-10 different small mini car bars in Sterling Silver 925/1000! PartΒ 1

Happy shiny Monday 🌞

Hope you all are having a wonderful start on your week. I sure did as I found a surprise package my mailbox πŸ˜²πŸ‘‰πŸ˜ƒ
And someone knows my passion for old cars AND silver... Check this out!

Collection with a total of 10 small mini studs in Sterling Silver 925/1000.
These were issued by the large collection company Franklin Mints USA.
These 10 different silver miniatures have motifs on cars and are part of a series of a total of 100 different.
Attached to each mininar is a nice information sheet about the car and the manufacturer.
There is a copy of a certificate from the National Testing Authority issued 1976!

Let's take a closer look at each beautiful old shiny car 🀩 shall we?

1896 Ford!

Henry Ford was born 1863 in the countryside of Michigan

IMG_20200121_010958.jpg

His father was a farmer, but Henry Ford was more interested in mechanical experiments.
As a young man, he was constantly picking watches and watches, and when Ford was 16, he left home to work as a mechanic in Detroit.

In 1891 he repaired an Otto engine and became convinced that one could design an engine designed to operate a wheeled vehicle.
He worked at the Edison Illuminating Company to learn more about electricity.
He built his first engine with a one-cylinder gas pipe as a cylinder.

IMG_20200121_010928.jpg

When he heard about America's first car race (Chicago Times Herald 1895 race), he built his first car "Quadricycle" and hid it in a shed behind the house.
Without fuel, the car weighed only 225 kilos and was equipped with bicycle wheels.
The driver sat perched on a bicycle saddle and steered the vehicle with a joystick.
The two-cylinder engine developed about 4 horsepower and a system of pulleys, belts and chains that transmitted the power to the rear wheels.

The two-cylinder engine developed about 4 horsepower and a system of pulleys, belts and chains that transmitted the power to the rear wheels.

The historic test drive went so well that Ford continued to improve the "Quadricycle" and replaced a variety of wood details with steel.
The very uncomfortable bicycle seat was replaced with something similar to a cowhide with plenty of room for a passenger.
The "quadricycle" was met by some protests, but the mayor of Detroit gave Ford a special permit to drive the vehicle on the city streets.
Later in life, Ford could say, "For a short time, I was thus the only driver in America who had the paperwork that I was allowed to drive"!

1875 Marcus!

Siegfried Marcus was born september 18th 1831 in Malchin in Germany

IMG_20200121_010729.jpg

The world's first functioning car made its historic debut on the streets of Vienna Austria in 1875.
Not only did Siegfried Marcus drive the car, he also designed and built it in his workshop at Mariahilferstrasse 107.
He called it "Strassenwagen" and to the great amazement of the city's residents he drove it along Vienna's streets on a test drive of about 11 kilometers.

Siegfried Marcus left his home as a teenager to look for work and he was hired by an engineering firm and was involved in laying down the first telegraph cable between Berlin and Magdeburg.
He had great mechanical interest and now also added electricity.
He used his knowledge in both these areas when he made his "Strassenwagen".

IMG_20200121_010651.jpg

After moving to Vienna, Marcus opened his own small workshop in Mariahilferstrasse.
In an attempt to invent the electric light, he triggered an electric spark with gasoline steamed air.
His failed experiment ended with an explosion, but it gave him the idea of an internal combustion engine and this led to his success with the "Strassenwagen".
He intended to convert the energy of the exploding fuel mixture into propellant by means of cylinder and piston.
He secretly built the engine for fear that his invention would be stolen.
He designed a carburetor to turn liquid fuel into an air-gas mixture.
His electric ignition system was the result of his experience with electricity.
Around 1860 his engine was operational, but it wasn't until sometime between 1863 and 1866 that he mounted it on a simple towbar.

He reworked his engine into a recumbent four-cylinder four-stroke engine, which maximally developed three-quarters of horsepower.
He designed a chassis of a powerful oak frame and placed the engine under the rear seat.
A drive belt brought the power to the rear axle and a cone clutch was placed next to the flywheel.
To steer the car, he designed a worm gear that turned the entire front axle instead of just the wheels.
The primitive brakes consisted of brake pads pressed against the iron-cushioned wood of the rear wheels. (just like on a horse-drawn carriage)

"Strassenwagen" was ready for test driving to the public, but they were not ready for "Strassenwagen".
The police immediately issued regulations restricting the freedom of movement of this motor vehicle.
No one knows if it was because of the public's poor response or his interest in other inventions that caused him not to develop the car further.
Only 3 "Strassenwagen" were built and one of them is currently on display at the Technical Museum in Vienna.
It is so well-built that the 1950s could again be triumphantly run before a large crowd of spectators.
75 years after his first test drive, the ancestor of all cars showed that the PROCEDURE was to be expected!

1885 Benz!

Karl Benz was born 25th november 1844 in Karlsruhe Germany

IMG_20200121_010549.jpg

Unlike Siegfried Marcus, Karl Benz was completely convinced that the petrol engine would replace the horse as a source of fuel, and he spent much of his life turning his faith into reality.
After overcoming poverty and ridicule, Benz built his first car in 1885, and it became the prototype for the first series of commercially successful cars in history.

Karl Benz was the son of a mechanical engineer and seems to have inherited his father's mechanical interest.
Benz became fascinated by gasoline engines and in 1833 he started a small company that produced small two-stroke engines for stationary use.
He used an electric ignition system that he himself developed, which consisted of an accumulator battery (coil and spark plug, that is, an ignition system very similar to what we have today)

IMG_20200121_010529.jpg

Rather than motorize an already existing vehicle like Siegfried Marcus had done, Benz felt that the chassis and engine had to be designed so that they complemented each other and worked as a unit.
Based on this principle, Benz built a lightweight car for a single-cylinder four-stroke engine on 3/4 horsepower which he designed himself.
Since he did not yet know how to construct a steering mechanism for two front wheels, the car only got one front wheel.
Benz equipped his car with large drive wheels for better power.
The engine and power transmission of "Rotary" were clumsy in comparison to our time, but still brilliant!
