Coins of 500 Rupiah 2003 Jasmine Flowers

Hello friends,

Since the independence, Indonesia has issued various forms of coins, some made of nickel, brass, aluminum and even the latest from bimetallic materials. Overall Indonesia has 15 types of fractions from the smallest, namely 1 cent to the largest of 1000 rupiah.

After searching for a long time, I could obtain finally the 2003 Rupiah 500 coin. The 500 Rupiah coins are quite difficult to find in my area. Because the 1991 onwards coins are widely used for making rings. Why is the Ring made? Rumors circulated at one time for the 1991 onwards 500 coins were said to contain gold. So people in my area flocked to hunt for these coins for the benefit of making rings.

In fact, the 500 rupiah coins in 1991 onwards were made of brass (aluminum - bronze) with jasmine flowers and the figure of Rp. 500 small at the bottom. They weighed 3.1 grams.

For the next 500 rupiah coins the emissions are very different, the jasmine interest becomes small and the figure is Rp. 500 becomes big.

What is the metal content of that one nice coin shown here, @lawns? Wow... they had gold on the 500 Rupiah coins? I am sure the Indonesian mint can confirm the rumors, right? Were they ever made in silver?
Thanks for sharing, my friend, and take care.

The coin contains aluminium only and the other metal they ever got made in was brass. As far as having gold, it was rumors only. Thanks @silversaver888.
