”Blackbirds tend to like shiny objects”

Have I got Birds! @dfinney ‘s recent article on the Australian Bird of Paradise. As for my birds, actually most of these belong to my Social media shy friend Punky’s Dad as he is not only a Stacker but a bird themed Collector. Now let’s head over to the other side of the world into the South Asian seas, to the half Island nation of Papua New Guinea, half as Pupua Indonesia governs the western half.

Where is Papua New Guinea ? by Zuanzuanfuwa under CCO 4.0

The lush tropical country of Pupua New Guinea covers 465,000 SqKm and boasts a population of over 8 million. The country is amazingly diverse in flora, fauna, and over 800 indigenous languages with agriculture being its primary economic engine. This former Commonwealth country achieved independence from Australia in July of 1949. So let’s see this coin!

1975 Papua New Guinea 10 Kina Silver Proof Issue coin

Reeded edge, Catalog Reference KM # 8a

To truly appreciate the subject of this coin on the official bird of Papua New Guinea is to see the Raggiana Bird of Paradise. And it is not the mere fact this Commonwealth country does not have the likeness of Queen Elizabeth II on the Obverse. Remember this little fact when this answer comes up on Jeopardy.

Genus:Paradisaea – Species:Raggiana by David J Stang under CCO 4.0

And, to appreciate this large 1.31 oz. silver coin, it is just five mm larger in diameter than the American Silver Eagle.

Variety keeps silver Stacking exciting and fresh otherwise I'd just be writing about Maple leafs and American Silver eagles all the time. There are lots of pretty coins out there to find.

This whole place is going to the birds! 🤣😂

These are really cool. Looks like Papua New Guinea loves their birds of paradise even MORE than the Australians. I like that they have the bird vs the queen on the coins.

More birds? Why sure I got more birds! How about the Cook Islands next and I'll get back to Indonesia and Malaysia etc etc...

Beautiful coins, sis @kerrislravenhill! So... Punky's Dad is a bird-theme silver collector. You, too, have quite a collection of bird coins! Is he in steemit?

Just a few of the coins are my finds from shows we checked out since I started Stacking. Having a few theme and numismatic coins does spice up the stack and there's always something to learn or I'd be stuck just posting about Maple leafs. 🤔 And PD? He's not into 'Complicated blogging and programming' and is happy to go to actual meetings, shows, and peruse collecting bulletin board sites. With material like this on loan, and the old banknotes are not cheap, I guess he vicariously Steems through me and really wants to see me succeed far apart from my old self destructive past.
