Testing WordPress Private Publishing With Steem

Pretext

The experiment failed. Meaning, it didn't work. The post did publish privately on WordPress, so when I'm logged in as myself, I can see the post, but it isn't visible publicly. When I log out, or view from a different browser that isn't logged in, I no longer see the post on WordPress either.

It did not propagate to Steem via the SteemPress plugin, so I can only conclude that the SteemPress pluging obeys the WordPress privacy option, or that the option overrides the SteemPress option. Either way, the result is the same.

What am I talking about? I'm glad you asked. Please see below:

I already tested WordPress scheduled posts with Steem, and it works amazingly well. It’s nothing new – some of the Steem dapps already have the functionality, but it gives me the ability to have the posts on my website as well as on my Steem blog.

The SteemPress plugin for WordPress also allows you to make posts that don’t propagate to the Steem blockchain. This is implemented as a simple button click.

What if I do want the post on Steem, but not on my WordPress site? Well, that’s easy right? I just write the post directly on a Steem dapp. What if I want to create the post on WordPress so I can use all the tools I have available there, but don’t want it shown?

There’s an option to publish privately on WordPress, also implemented by a simple button option. In theory if I pick this option, it will hide the post from my public WordPress site. If I also elect to propagate to Steem, will this work or will the WordPress private option override this?

What I’m looking to do is basically be able to schedule a whole bunch of posts one a single day, say Monday, and have one posted each day of the week. This is a lot more efficient than actually writing each post and going through the process of adding tags and posting every day. The kind of posts I’m talking about will be repetitive and similar because I will be bringing back the photography contests, which require me posting the same ting everyday.

The contests will return after HF21 drops and I’ve had a few days to watch the effect on the blockchain.

This is one of the things I’m doing to adapt to the changing ecosystem that is the Steem blockchain. I’m going to be stepping up my curation efforts amongst other things. I believe rather than lament the changes, one best adapts and mutates along with it, or become irrelevant.

What about you? Are you doing anything to prepare for HF21 or ceareth ye not?
