Any artistic product, a painting, a sculpture, a film, a play, a poem, is subject to the judgment of time.
Unlike products intended for everyday consumption and of pure commercial interest, works of art are destined to remain over time.
This subjects them to various levels of judgment.
There are many who were mistreated during their time and re-evaluated then, others have undergone the opposite process.
From the 2000s to the known audiovisual arts. and accept, it is perhaps the case to add even a small rib: the TV series.
If this process can be said to be concluded it is thanks to the so-called Golden Age tv that is ideally made starting in the 2000s and that coincides with hugely successful shows of the US cable broadcaster HBO.
In particular The Sopranos are considered the starting point with several shows such as Six Feet Under, Deadwood and others to serve as additional grimaldello. The golden age of TV reached its peak in the late 2000s with Breaking Bad and Mad Men, considered the summation of quality on TV.

This dirty game is even more palpable in a city like Baltimore where the African-American community, always harassed more than the others, is predominant.
And so young people, even the brightest ones, will end up dealing drugs and drug dealers will end up being people who are often less ruthless than those who, from the top of their jackets and ties, are standing up as champions of justice.
A sad world, made up of dirty money, blind people, angry and disillusioned citizens, decent people left alone, politicians who start a career with the intention of changing things and end up changing their position for the better.
The Wire is a real work of art, a fresco, an insight into the contemporary that is always worth looking at, regardless and whatever era you are.
A masterpiece that stops time and makes it available to entire generations.

David Simon sfruttò il suo passato da giornalista al Baltimore per ambientare una serie ambientata proprio a Baltimora e che provasse a ricostruire il contesto socio, politico, culturale della città. Partendo da quella realtà riuscì a raccontare benissimo la realtà di tutta l'America, di tutte le città statunitensi, con uno sguardo sul mondo. Le 5 stagioni furono divise in blocchi, partendo da storie e personaggi principali, che andavano a raccontare segmenti specifici della società. Se la prima stagione si concentrava sulla lotta alla criminalità, lo spaccio di droga e le difficili indagini della polizia, la seconda si inoltrava nel mondo dei sindacati, andando a raccontarne le difficoltà, la corruzione e le storie di moderni Don Chisciotte. Nella terza, la quarta e la quinta, invece furono indagate le dinamiche interne al sistema giudiziario, scolastico, politico e giornalistico della città. Un affresco spietato e pungente della società americana che veniva concluso con un finale stupendo di puro stampo gattopardesco. L'opera di Simon e Pelecanos, che diverranno una coppia inseparabili di li ai nostri giorni, è stata cinica nel rappresentare il sogno americano. Il paese delle opportunità e delle scommesse irrealizzabili risulta di fatto un paese di emarginati, di grande povertà, di miseria umana, di opportunismo, di corrotti e avidi. E questo accade a tutti i livelli, perché ad ogni livello esistono persone capaci di sfruttare il grande sogno americano per il bene personale e non per il bene collettivo. Questo gioco sporco è ancora più palpabile in una città come Baltimora dove la comunità afroamericana, da sempre vessata più delle altre, è predominante. E cosi i giovani, anche quelli più brillanti, finiranno per spacciare droga e gli spacciatori finiranno per essere persone spesso meno spietate di chi, dall'alto di giacca e cravatta, si erige a paladino della giustizia. Un mondo triste, fatto di soldi sporchi, persone cieche, cittadini arrabbiati e disillusi, persone perbene lasciate da sole, politici che iniziano una carriera nell'intento di cambiare le cose e finiscono per cambiare in meglio solo la propria posizione. The Wire è un'opera d'arte vera e propria, un affresco, uno spaccato sulla contemporaneità che vale la pena guardare sempre, a prescindere ed in qualsiasi epoca ci si trovi.
