CONTENT RELATED SETTINGS
1. NSFW POSTS
Just in case users aren't familiar with the term it stands for "Not Safe For Work" but is also interpreted by some as not safe for children. But basically you can think: "would some users get in trouble viewing this post while at work in a very formal workplace?"
We've given users 3 different options for adult type content.
- Show - Always shows no matter what
- Click to Show - You have to click to even see the thumbnail.
- Hide - You won't even see the posts come up, nor porn tribe etc.
- LOCK - This locks the account. Use active key to Unlock.
HOW LOCK WORKS
Lock will actually put text onto the accounts' metadata field.
This is technically a decentralized setting. However SteemPeak may be the only interface that uses this decentralized option or that has a hide compared to just "Click to Show". We encourage other interfaces to use the setting found in users metadata.
DEFAULT = Hide
Default includes any one not logged in... you have to have an account and change NSFW on purpose.
TIPS: If you have children OR want to prevent an account from being used to view NSFW give them just the Posting key and Lock the account. Just keep in mind that NSFW only works if the author purposefully puts that tag on their post. However authors that don't put that on their post usually get a whole community of users mad at them if they don't.
2. AUTHOR MUTING PREFERENCES
This setting basically says that when looking at a post you would like to NOT VIEW comments by users that the author of the post has muted.
The default is on because the assumption is if you are going to that author they know their spammers and trolls better than you and you can read the content without extra drama.
WHAT IS MUTING
It's basically hiding or default collapsed.
Muting adds someone to a type of public blockchain list and then it's up to each interface to decide what to do... usually hide or auto-collapse are the typical ways to mute.
Keep in mind that you can't stop anyone from posting or commenting on the blockchain however you also can't be forced to view comments from users if you don't want to, you as the viewer have final say at what your experience should be.
There is no BLOCKING on the blockchain but there is the ability to more or less be left alone with mutes.
TIP: Doing a mute isn't just beneficial for you... on SteemPeak muting can help improve the experience for those who view your posts. Note that Muting is a public blockchain transaction and is published to the blockchain just like a follow so muting it is decentralized and should work on each interface that has developed a muting interface.
3. DEFAULT COMMENT SORTING
There are 5 ways to sort comments on SteemPeak.com
You can change how each comment section is organized in a case by case scenario or change the default in settings.
The default on SteemPeak is sort by AUTHOR VOTE
Author vote basically organizes comments by how the author themselves voted the comment.
WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO YOU?
- What the author thinks about the comment.
- How much rewards the comment has made.
- Age of the comment.
- Or the built in Steem reputation system.
TIPS: Play around with different comment settings specially in posts with a lot of commentary see which experience is better for you, which comments you like the most, there is no rule that you have to see highest rewarded comments first though many interfaces default to that sorting method.
Another solid tip is to curate your own posts because you are making a statement about which comments should be viewed by other users.
4. HIDE POSTS THAT USE A SPECIFIC TAG/TOPIC
You the viewer shouldn't have to see any content you don't want to view... but it's up to you to be proactive.
- As we discussed you can mute users
- Here on SteemPeak.com you can HIDE entire tags/topics.
Meaning if you add a tag to this list you won't see posts with that tag.
- So is there a language you can't read?
- Is there an app that you think is too spammy?
- Is there a topic that doesn't interest you?
This is your world... don't be acted upon... you can craft the type of content you view... or DON'T VIEW.
5. USE GLOBAL BLACKLIST API
All that this setting does is check a database and if the account is listed it gives a small symbol next to the name of the users who are on one of the several blacklists. Hovering over the symbol will tell you a bit more about the list and who to get a hold of.
There are many reasons for being added and each list is different. Some track spam/harassers, some track accounts that have had keys stolen or that have tried to defraud other accounts and some even track low effort content posters that in the list creators opinion are abusing the steem reward system.
It's important to know SteemPeak does not manage any of these lists but gives links on how to get a hold of the people that run these lists.
YOU CAN TURN OFF... all of these settings are optional just like this one.

Vote for the @steempeak witness
Now is probably a nice time to remind you that we run a witness server to help produce the blocks for the Steem Blockchain. You can vote for our witness so we are in a position to process more of them.
- Using Keychain: You just have to click and approve the transaction
- Using SteemConnect: You'll need access to confirm the transaction with your Active Key at least
