I think I finally know why my potions seems to be not working!
Well I somehow got lucky today and got myself a sweet ESSENCE ORB. I also got 1 ESSENCE ORB last week, so if I get one at least once a week, my mixed feelings about the reward system changing to 33% DEC / 33%Potions and 33% Reward Cards would really change. XD
Anyways, as some of you might have noticed already, when you open a pack (like an Essence Orb or Untamed) there is now a "verification" thingy below the cards you just got. So I tried that one out and got this:
I already had a feeling that this would happen as the same thing also happened when I opened my ESSENCE ORB last week so I screenshotted this one first:
As you can see, I have 5 Alchemy Potions and 1 Legendary Potion in hand. But (I'm not sure if this is a visual bug or what) but the verification thingy marks that box as "0" or like someone who don't have any potions in hand when in fact again, I have 5 Alchemy ones and 1 Legendary potion.
At the end, it consumed all my potions: T_T
I did try to play with the verification thingy for some time and changed the Alchemy Potion to 5 and Legendary to 1 (as what should have been in the boxes in the first place) and still got the same result of cards. T_T So probably just a visual bug? Still that kinda irks me though as the verification thingy makes it not kinda reliable. XD
I also tried changing the number of packs opened with the same number of potions and it seems I would have gotten a gold if I opened 3 ESSENCE ORBS at that time. XD
Wow, I just started Splinterlands and all that went over my head. I've just been randomly picking cards to do my daily quests (no strategy at all, total newb, lol). I have a question though that I hope you wouldn't mind answering.
I just started Splinterlands and don't know much about it. My question is what's the optimal strategy for opening bought booster packs? Is there any difference in opening them now vs waiting to open them later? Is there any disadvantage to opening them immediately upon purchase that I don't know about?

Pretty much the same for me when I first started playing the game. It took me like 10 matches to finally figure out why my ranged monsters are not attacking (I placed them at the very front at that time). XD
I suggest buying specific cards (that you really need and will often use) on the market rather than buying packs. I maybe somewhat biased here though since I haven't had that much luck on opening booster packs but I personally think it would be better to level up cards that you will often use than to rely on the randomness of the booster packs.
There's a promo this week though so if you are planning to buy a lot of booster packs, this week is probably the best week to do that.
As far as I know for booster packs, there isn't really that much difference between opening them now or later (some however convert this packs to tokens and wait for months before selling them again in the market at a much higher price).
But if you want to get a 'somewhat' higher chance of getting a gold-foil card or a legendary then it's probably better to open them with some potions in hand (rarely works on me though T_T). I don't suggest buying the potions but the reward potions you will get from the daily quests is enough.
Same here. Not really a fan of the potions so far. I opened a pack while using a legendary potion I got from the daily quest and got really mediocre cards worth around $0.20.
