Beta Packs from Steem-Engine: Worth the Investment?

avatar

Right now as I entered into the unknown world of Splinterlands and Steemmonsters I have been trying to find out what is the best way to invest into this game after finding out it can be quite fun (but frustrating) when you are not certain how it works (on strategising your cards)

And I did remember @khimgoh told me once:

If you can assemble yourself a great set of cards that is pretty much invisible in battles you could practically either sell them off later or even lease to them

(I totally have no idea about leasing because I know leasing doesn't has an interface that speaks about how much I can lease out / lease in yet... maybe I haven't explore the game enough)

Anyways, it wasn't really investing I tried this out today

During steemfest when we ladies were sitting around talking about splinterlands after we got the starter packs, Khim was hyper-excited trying to tell us how great starter packs were / how it is wiser / unwise to look into market to get a Beta pack that is sold in the steem-engine exchange site.

As a n00b I wasn't certain how this is done and I didn't know how may cards is there in a pack (maybe I didn't hear Khim said clearly); but I do know that she went hyper when beta came out and bought A LOT of beta packs before it was officially launched.

And I wasn't sure why there were 100 packs promo and 500 packs promo on the Store area for Untamed series

Until...

Oh.... one beta pack only has 5 cards?

I realised the number of cards can exist in a pack.

As I have never purchased any already released cards before so I took myself to buy 1 BETA to try it out. Of course I think I bought it way over priced in the steem-engine market, but hey, to test things out one's gotta go through it to make it stick right?

Besides, this sharing on this account will save my little munchkins a lot of time the day they receive my gift if this game pulls out long enough for their wedding day haha

(But I might work on a basic element pack and gift it to the eldest munchkin and probably build a basic strong one for the youngest because she is kind of competitive and I'd just give her a head start... as for the middle child, I would probably ask her what she likes because she probably won't play but would have it as a collection)

pst: only those who attended SF4 will recognize this lol

Different kids, different character

Anyways, besides getting one rare card, the rest of the cards aren't too highly priced, so even after the price check it is actually only rounded up to $1 USD in total...

Which means... I got slaughtered more than 200% by paying $2.84 a pack. haha....

And that is why I remembered Khim mention, if we know how to identify what sort of cards we want to build, it will actually be much cheaper to obtain it from the market place.

Only unfortunate thing was... I can't upgrade my starter pack summoners because I don't own them; and I won't be able to get a nice collection of cards as a wedding gift...

(I think summoners don't exist in beta packs... do they exist in Alpha packs?)

Nevertheless, with the blessings from @steamdan and help from @foggybottom maybe I can make use of this time to decide which are the best and eventually invest on the right summoner to own in the future.

Verdict : Yay or nay to invest via steem-engine's beta packs?

Nay. Unless you are pretty confident that all the blessings / luck (which every you believe) are aligned in a way you will know you get a whole lot of really good packs.

Did I wast my $2.84 in this exercise?

I can't really say that, because if this post serves a great information for people to decide how to buy cards, maybe it's worth the investment as tried-n-tested haha.

I know this would serve me a great reminder not to buy over priced packs again unless the cards I need are too expensive and I have enough dough to chance it.

I'll share with you some of my steem monsters battle journey in the future.

haha thank you!
Sometimes I really hate it when I am into a game the analytical part of me will try to poke it or even break it if possible just to write a review. 🤣

Great Story of what you did in buying a BETA Pack. It is always fun to open packs. The Cards will do well over time since they will get combined......

Yes I found out the only way that they will be more powerful is to combine packs.
Maybe one day it will evolove to a more complex game where based on number of battles the card price might vary 😋

Summoners do exist in beta packs, and yes.. yours was a crappy pack but the cards are increasing in value and have been since they were OOP.

I too bought tons of beta packs just before they were all sold. I believe them to be a decent investment.

Oh I see. So would investing on untamed packs will be much better in terms of investments?

Many are jumping on this expansion, but experience has told me to wait. We don't know whats in there.. yet as far as quality is concerned.

Beta's are going through the roof, and is something I will be posting about soon.
