AtomicDEX Initial Impressions

avatar

After a bit of research I got really excited and decided to bite the bullet and install some beta software on my smartphone. I've always been interested in decentralized exchanges for the potential benefits that they could provide for frictionless trading.

Frankly I was a bit worried about potential problems with security but the benefits seemed to out way the liabilities.

With CoinExchange closing I was in the mood for looking for some other way of trading some of my more esoteric crypto assets. Plus I've been interested in some of the smart contract code on Steem-Engine so checking out how things are working with the Komodo software seemed logical.

With CoinExchange still open for now, I bravely traded some stuff and moved Dogecoin into my newly installed AtomicDEX beta wallet. The Dogecoin showed up in the wallet - so far so good.

Looking for something to trade there was a Litecoin offer that seemed good but I would be losing a bit of value in the process. There were several KMD offers and one was right at the market price for both coins so I took it.

Waiting.... waiting.... slugs wander around the garden...

LOL and BEHOLD:

Ach du meunier lieber!

It actually worked! After slugging around with all kinds of beta software I was pleasantly surprised. The wallet installed well and after some brief agreements and storing passwords and such, I was in business. Here's a Youtube video on the installation and trading if you are more interested in details: How To Make An Atomic Swap With AtomicDEX From Komodo

I can see all kinds of potentials for this stuff. Lots of coins have a memo field that can store short text in the blockchain. Maybe some swaps could be done with Steem or the Steem-Engine tokens through custom JSON stored into any coins memo field. Perhaps the future is filled with almost frictionless trading...

Further research might be a possibility if I'm not too busy doing disc golfing and walking Dog-oh. :D

In any case the beta software of AtomicDEX is worth checking out imho.

With that said, who knows what sort of issues might come up and @lightsplasher is not giving any kind of financial or technical advice on the usability or safety of said software. Use at our own risk. Graphics were taken from the AtomicDEX software and embellished using Photoshop Express and the video is not my work and a link is provided for promoting it.

Thank you all for reading and your support!

I'm always afraid of installing software on my cellphone, you never know what you might be installing... I'm thinking of getting a second cellphone just to store the important information (2FA) that I got on my cellphone, better be safe than sorry...

The only DEX I've used until now is bitshares, if I get a second phone I'll try this one :)

I almost installed it on my older smartphone just for safety, but then I thought, "What could possibly go wrong? It's just crypto." It's not like I'm racing a motorcycle through Utah in 120 degree weather, smoking tobacco and drinking whisky. NO worries right? Lol.

Yes I know, safety first. Next time I'll be more careful. But you know it seems to be working out alright. It is a bit of a learning curve but I've been checking things out in more depth with a lot of different projects.
