TSLA Short Closed for a 15% Profit | New SPY Position

avatar

In yesterday's post I explained my reasoning for a short-term position against TSLA and bought a PUT contract to back it up.

Well, this morning TSLA opened slightly up and then shortly after fell a little bit after (I assume) some people took profits. TSLA later rallied a few ticks but I managed to get my contract filled at a 15% gain since yesterday.

Here are some screenshots from the brokerage I use currently (Robinhood). I enjoy their setup a lot because making a closing order or replacing a current order (or tracking your history of the two) is as simple as having a text message conversation with a robot 🤖

Here's the Opening Order

And Here's the Closing Order

When I trade options, I trade the premiums for contracts that are just a few weeks out. I was explaining this to a friend who was looking at my trades today and asking how it worked. I may do a more extensive write-up of the way that I trade options.

Anyways, this was a nice profit for today. I opened the trade yesterday right before the market closed and closed it today just after the market opened.

I was considering another position at market close today but decided to forgo it, as I have an SPY position that is still open and I'm waiting to see the direction on that play.

Wow! Nice play. You bought PUTS in a positive rally with the usual run up and then the next day falling volatility exceeded falling prices so you were able to get out with a nice gain. It looks like a nice play. Congratulations.

What were the factors about the news or stock which stimulated this play?
Thanks
