Musings From The Belly of A Whale: Is "Dolphinhood" A Myth?

If you've followed me you may know that sometimes I write posts Titled "Musings From The Belly of A Whale" and then subtitle with something else. These posts are meant to think about things from the hierarchy perspective here on @steemit.

I've spent a lot of time here on @steemit , as probably many of you have, wishing I was a whale or an orca. Especially in the old days of the bull run. Imagine what it would be like to use @steemit as an ATM machine.

But during that "best of times" I was a mere plankton and then minnow. I remember my first goal on Steemit was to get to that 500sp level so I could get the vote slider to yield my power to support others while making a fortune for myself. Now 500sp is hella cheap!

**So this stroll down memory lane got me thinking about my next step. Dolphinhood! **

I've seen some people announce recently that they've made it and I don't feel a bit of jealously. In fact, I have enough steem on an exchange to combine with my current holdings to have 5000sp and become a dolphin but I haven't done it.

If you look in my wallet you will see that I have earned 1600 liquid steem that is just sitting there and which could have been earning me more steem on the way up.

So What Gives?

Honestly, I just don't know. I'm stuck in "stay still" mode because I don't know what to do. The other day when BTC dipped to $7700 I almost cached out my liquid and went into BTC. (Which I have none of)

Then I thought, just power up and transfer just enough into my account so I can have 5000sp and claim I'm a Dolphin. But what would that get me that I don't have now?

That is the questions I have, What does being a Dolphin get me?

Would I earn more from my posts other than self voting?

Would I earn more from curation that I hardly do?

Would people like me more as a content producer?

Would there be a more strategic use of 5000sp than just being a Dolphin.

Since the fork would it be wise to have two 2500sp @cflclosers accounts. One to post with and One to curate with?

Or maybe 2 posting accounts which focus on different topics or tribes? With new steem being the buzz word, I'd like you to tell me in the comments if being a Dolphin, at least at the 5000sp.

I have a feeling it doesn't mean as much as it did before and there are better uses of 5000 steem.

Like everything on Steem, it's lost it's mystic and inherent value. I'd like to be a dolphin before Christmas, but my motivations have changed. In the past it would have been financially motivated because generating Steem every month in residual interest would have been awesome when it was worth US$5.

Now it's pocket money at best, and my motivation is somewhat petty and ridiculous. Who knows whether Steem will be doing what Bitcoin has in the next 10 years or even if it will be around by the end of the year?

True and I agree. I'm just trying to figure out how to arrange my 5000sp which I control so it benefits me most and do some good for the community. I don't think that lumping it into my account will get me much more benefit than having 2400sp and 1600 liquid. Before, I just wanted 5000sp because I thought it was cool! Any @shaidon have a !BEER on me. I love these tokens lol

I think it's good to have a 10% liquid to Steem Power ratio just in case you need to convert it back to FIAT in an emergency or you want to help a few people out or buy Splinterlands booster packs.

You might be moved to do more curating and, failing that, you could delegate some of your SP to @curangel, doing good work and earn daily returns. Not as high as bidbot days, but decent.
